Babys gone quiet- at 26 weeks

I had midwife appointment on the thursday and she heard the heartbeat then. However, since then he has been kicking lightly every now & then, but MUCH less than before, & no great heaving turns- now I'm paranoid. Does this sound normal or should I be worried?

If you are at all worried you need to contact your midwife if only for reassurance, give them a ring now. You have noticed a change and you are worried so ring them xx

Have a sugery drink and lie down on your left hand side. The baby should start being more lively. If not, then phone your midwife and ask her advice. It's not always something to worry about.

I don't know, but any concerns or changes should be checked out. Get an appt with GP or midwife now. Its too important to ignore and if baby is just being quiet, great, at least you are reassured.

give the baby a prod or have a bath, this always used to get mine moving.

GK, I'm 25 weeks, and find that he usually has a busy day then a quiet day.... go and eat lots of sweets, have a little lie down and you'll probably feel him... he's probably just sleeping as he is growing loads at the moment!!

i would go straight to ante natal at your nearest hospital to have it checked out. Sure you're absolutely fine, but do take it seriously if you have any doubts.

Hi GK- just eaten an iced bun- and fruit- he would normally be jumping all over the place! Cant lie down- am in the office.. Have tried prodding- nothing. I'm reluctant to ring midwife cos I saw them yesterday and he was ok then- he was kicking earlier, its just nothing like before, its probably me being paranoid...

dhw- can you go to any hospital? I thought I'd have to go to mine which is miles away...

If has turned round so his back is against your tummy then you wouldnt feel him as much.. sure it was cornflake that said that earlier... I really wouldnt panic.. but if you are worried then contact the midwife...xxx

Try drinking a couple of glasses of ice cold water.
That's what the midwives at the hospital told me to do when i hadn't felt one of mine moving (this was 3 years ago).
I was also told that baby should move or kick around 10 times a day.

If you're still worried either go to your maternity hospital or call your GP for an urgent appointment.

Oh glitterkitty, sorry you're worried, I echo the others - contact your MW or hospital, to put your mind at rest for the weekend if nothing else

Give them a phone, tell them you're coming in, you are worried and you would really appreciate a quick check - it won't take them long. I had an eventful pregnancy with lots of hospital trips and unscheduled extra checks and they were always great about it. Tell work you are feeling funny and need a check.

However, although I think you should get it checked, it it probably fine. I remember panicking on holiday at 29 weeks when DS seemed to stop moving - he started again after a few days.

I am 26 weeks too and have days like this. The midwife told me to drink ice cold water because they don't like that and should move. Also, I know what you mean about the heaving turns - mine have slowed down too - think they may be starting to lack in space.

If you are worried though go and get checked out.

When was the last time you felt any movement at all?

I used to go all day and well into the evening sometimes.

It is difficult to not worry but Im almost sure that there wont be anything wrong.

As everyone has said, give m/w a call for advice and reassurance.

Have just drunk a whole bottle of cold water- and felt a couple of kicks- just lightly but he's definatly still there. Sorry to be such a stupid worrier- but he was so active before all the time, its just odd. thank you all for your replies- sure you are right and all is well- I think I'll just keep an eye on it for next couple of hours, and call mw from home this evening if I'm still feeling worried hugs u all and is v v grateful

Are you stressed out at work? Often babies don't kick if you're working, but will do when you're home and relaxed.

The thing that always got dd going when I was worried (which was often - it was a difficult pregnancy) was having a lie down and relaxing. That's what convinced me to take mat. leave as early as possible.

IIRC the 10 movements a day(24hours) could happen all at once iyswim, ie, a lot of movements together would be counted as 1,2,3,4, etc.. rather than a bit of movement at 9am, than some at 10am, 11am etc, wouldnt be 3, it would be 30 say.

GK - I went in and got monitored on tuesday - movements have now picked up and happy feet has moved back into his igloo

Thanks bigbelly! Actually, he started jumping about again on Friday- I have been grinning like an idiot all weekend. And have come to horrible realisation of WHY it happened- I had a small glass of wine on Weds night. Last time I did this was in December- and the same thing happened- bean goes really quiet for couple of days. Drunk perhaps?! Anyway, thats the last alcohol I will have- my nerves cant take it!
