Finding out the sex: Mixed info from hospital.

Hi everyone, I'm 30 weeks pregnant with second baby and I was really set on finding out the sex this time, only the midwife who did both scans told me that their hospital policy was not to tell women what they were having and that it had always been the case for the eight years she worked there.
She told me that I could go to the private hospital next door and pay 160 pounds which I thought was ridiculous.
Now I spoke to a friend today who's 12 weeks pregnant, and she's having her first scan on friday (same hospital) and they asked her if she wanted to find out the sex (not this time but for the 20 weeks scan).
Can a hospital have different policies depending on which sonographer does the scan?

Some do "break the rules" I was told a girl, then a boy, then was told they weren't allowed to say... It really does depend on who you get. xXx

My hospital changed the policy between my 12 week and 20 week scans. The sonographer at the 12 week scan and all the leaflets said they weren't allowed to tell you, so I turned up at my 20 week scan all prepared NOT to find out the sex, only to be asked whether I wanted to know!

So possibly the policy has changed between you and your neighbour's scans. I doubt they'd give you another scan just to find out, but if you got one for another reason you could ask again.

I'm 12 weeks PG at the moment but for many reasons we really want to know the sex of this baby too, with DS #1 now 7yrs they didn't tell you the sex of the baby, but when I had a scan for DS #2 now 4 yr they asked me if I wanted to know the sex of the baby, we said yes and they told us we were having a boy, DH said that this time, if they cant tell us or if baby is playing up at my 20 week scan and we don't get to find out the sex, then he said he is going to pay for a "4D sexing scan" which are about £75-85 and lactated in Nottingham. I do agree that some sonographer "break the rules" as we went for our 12 week scan on Monday everything was find and we asked how much the pic's are she said £4 each we asked for 4 she gave us 5 and only charged us £8!
