What are these 'June buses' etc. on MN?

Can anyone explain these threads about joining the 'June bus' (or whatever month)? What are they for?

I think (although I'm happy to be corrected) they are for people who are ttc. They're hoping to catch the "June bus" (or whatever month it is) ie get a BFP. If they miss the June Bus (don't get a BFP that month) they carry on to the next thread and wait for the July bus.

Wonder if I should join in that case... does it end up competitive though? I wouldn't want to add pressure by feeling 'left behind'?
