If you had a scan at 1.45pm would you have lunch before or after.

Don't think it matters

wurlywurly · 16/01/2007 20:28

i like stupid questions

belgo · 16/01/2007 20:29

Afterwards. My dh and I always used to go out for a meal after a scan, to relax and discuss the scan.

Ceolas · 16/01/2007 20:30

I don't think it matters at all. They like you to have a full bladder though as it makes the uterus more visible, I think.

Personally, I'd have it before.

3xamum · 16/01/2007 20:30

If I was pregnant I would be having lunch before AND after can you tell I'm dieting?

Seriously though think its fine whatever.

lulumama · 16/01/2007 20:38

ceolas- thats what is says in all the books- but when I went for my scan with busting full bladder the nurses laughed at me and said 'we dont do that anymore- go and have a wee!'- I felt like a right idiot.

eat something sugary/ fruit juice before- it makes bean go mad- much more fun to watch!

GillL · 17/01/2007 13:06

Is that a new rule everywhere glitterkitty? When I last went a couple of years ago I got a letter telling me I had to drink a pint of water and I struggled not to wee on the table when the sonographer pushed the scanner thing into my bladder.

glitterkitty · 17/01/2007 13:11

I dont know if its everywhere- this is my first. And i had got all prepared and drunk loads! Nurse just said 'we dont do that anymore' -like it was ancient custom. That was in October.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2007 18:15

I had to have a full bladder on 30th November! It was written on my appointment letter.

I would say after as I was feeling worried (for no reason) with 20 wk scan so couldn't have eaten before, but it was at 9am. At 12wk scan couldn't have done either!

Miaou · 17/01/2007 18:45

GIIL, I had to have a full bladder for my scan last week! Depends when it is - the earlier the scan, the more important it is that your bladder is full. When I went for a 20 week scan (last time) I didn't need a full bladder.

But - to the OP - I would have lunch beforehand. If they are late with your scan (which, if they hit a problem, is likely) then you will be so ravenous!

BabyMadwithBump · 17/01/2007 20:11

I had a 12 week scan on Monday, they never asked me for a full bladder and I really didn't have one anyway but what little I did have they ask for in a water sample, and my scan was so clear, I don't think it matters, also they'll tell you to go and have a drink water and come back if they cant see! My scan on empty bladder!

Well if its anything like our hospital,a 1:45 appointment means a 3pm scan followed by an hour sat in the waiting room while they write your notes up. And then if there are any issues, another hour wait to see a consultant, 5 minutes talking to the consultant, and another hour waiting for them to do your notes. So I'd eat before. Or take a packed lunch ...

Tommy · 17/01/2007 21:24

like fruitful - at my 20 week scan I sat in waiting room with my packed lunch.
Scan at 11.30, appointment with doctor (which was a complete waste of time as the first question she asked me was "Now...why are we seeing you today?") at 1.45

LieselVentouse · 17/01/2007 21:36
