Hello Homebirthers, unsure whether this will be benefical but after seeing due date clubs/threads thought I would put this up.

A place where you can just dive in to post comment, with any of your home birthing planning issues, difficulties or joys!

I'm planning one myself, albeit a natural thing to do there's not many that do....popularity is increasing though :).

Just how many, if any at all are here as mumnetters?

Baby boy born this morning AT HOME after a very quick labour. Had to take a trip into hospital to get some stitches unfortunately but all well and both at home. Smile

Birth Story

Had the show around 9am monday morning, which continued most of the day (yuk), niggly pains which went away by 4pm. Went to bed around 10pm and woke at just after 4am feeling like my waters had gone - they had but were only trickling. Came downstairs and tried to time my contractions which were short but very intense. I called the maternity unit at 4:45am as I was really struggling by this stage then woke DH who got up and started setting everything up straight away (tarpaulin, bed mats, pillows and the mw home birth kit). Mw x2 arrived around 5:45am they got set up as I was pacing around my square of covered floor and DH made cuppas. By this stage I was down on all fours and DH had called his brother who arrived about 20 past. They had examined me to find I was fully dilated (thank god) and I started to push and used gas and air until the last 10mins when i felt it was impeding progress.

He didn't breathe initially so mw cut the cord quickly and got him up on the table for some oxygen which pinked him up quickly - DH held him as I was being examined but I was in alot of pain so it was brought up that we should probably go into hospital so that they could properly look as they couldn't tell if if was 2nd or 3rd degree tear. I got up onto the sofa and we had a feed and he met his sisters while the mw did their paperwork then DBIL took the dds to school and DH took baby and I to hospital.

I had a second degree tear so got high as a kite on gas and air/whatever the consultant jabbed me with and was stitched up by a very nice consultant - have to admit I had a good cry even though I was so out of it! Ian got checked out by paediatrics as he had a crackly rattle but it wasn't anything to worry about just some mucus which they got cleared out. He also had his hearing test.

Officially I had 45m 1st stage, 45m 2nd stage and 10m 3rd stage - total labour of 1h 40m.

Wow! If my birth story is anything like that, I'll be pretty happy I think. Well done, hope you're not too sore and everyone's settling in Smile
