Being induced tomorrow....Help!

Hi Ladies,

I'm looking for some positive stories from anyone who's been induced. I'm 37+5 and being induced tomorrow as they are worried about our LG growth. Had a scan today and I'm measuring 36 weeks and LG estimated to weigh 6.1lb and they have said its best to induce me. I've never really heard a good story and hear lots about it hurting more than if you were to naturally go in to labour. Any help or stories would be great...I'm sure I won't be getting much sleep tonight! X

Well it ain't the most pleasant experience and I don't know if it hurts more than a non induced labour but my biggest tip is this. If it's available, ask for the gas before they do the induction because I found that part horrendous and invasive and scary. It didn't work the first time so they did it again, this time I was high as a kite so only mildly uncomfortable. Later on a doctor manually broke my waters and I sucked on the gas for about a minute and felt nothing so it really does work. Bring a hot water bottle and keep it as hot as you can bear on your lower back. I ended up with a csection 24 hours after the first induction as labour didn't progress past 5cm and my waters were thick with meconium. My husband says the whole experience was traumatic and scary but that's not how I remember it despite what I've written. I felt safe in the hands of professionals and that every step meant it was getting closer to the end. Good luck!!

I was induced on my due date (am a Brit that gave birth in the US where inducing is the norm). Even though it was almost 3 years ago, I have mostly positive memories of it because I knew nothing better/no other way.

I was put on a drip on the Sunday at 10pm, and had my DD at 3pm the next day. There were pessaries/waters broken/pethidine, but it felt really controlled (like the Americans like it to be done), but I felt safe. I felt my baby was safe, and even thought there were numerous involved, it was me doing all the work, and I felt in control.

Some might say it's not the most natural way to give birth, but if you're ready, baby is ready, and you have support.. it can be the most amazing experience! Juse let anyone know if you're uncomfortable with any of the process, it can be lengthy for some ladies.

I was induced with my first for growth concerns. My tip is to walk as much as you can in between being monitored. Also if you can, ask to stand or lean over the side of the bed when being monitored.

I was induced with my first and it was a bit slow but not painful. I was wheelchair bound by SPD so induced a bit early. When near fully dilated they realised that i wasn't going to be able to push and there was a problem with my pelvis so i ended up with emergency c-section.

I wasn't put off induction though. I've got three DC now and every birth has been unique. Every birth has quickly dropped off the radar of significance when the wonderful result is presented as a squishy bundle freshly arrived into the world.

Don't beat yourself up for finding it hard to settle tonight. You may drift in and out of sleep more than you expect if you get as cosy as you can in bed and focus on happy things.

I was induced at 39+3 as I had bad SPD.
I was admitted at 12 and had my waters broken at 1.30. I was given 2 hours for cobtraction to start but they didn't really get going. I was moved to delivery room, monitored at put on the drip at 4 30. I asked about an epidural but was told not until this gst had really got under way as it can result in failed induction. At 6 30 the contractions really kicked off. I was on gas and air and found that rotating my hips really helped. The contractions were very intense and by 7 there was no break between them. Next thing I knew I had the urge to push - midwife was out of room getting diamorphine injection for me. She gave me the injection while I was contract ting and I had the urge again. I still had my Knickers on! Got them off and went for it, took less than 6 minutes to deliver him.
I'm really glad I went for induction, it was much better than my first labour. I was up and in the shower and hour after having him, it took me a week to manage that after having ds1! Good luck for tomorrow, take all the pain relief you are offered!

I've had three inductions, all were fine. I felt in control , could chose my pain relief without any urgency (one epidural , two gas and air) , I felt comfort being in the hospital from the beginning. One baby was massive (they obviously missed it) and still it was all fine, and I am a proper wimp. Good luck and keep nice and relaxed, honestly it makes a difference.

I was induced with my first day before due date I found it ok didn't work first time so they had to do it again. I found that walking around a lot of up and down the stairs at the hospital canow help and later that evening I went into labour and my daughter was born early hours.
