I recently had a urine sample and it turned out that i have Strep B which i am currently on antibiotics for. it has me concerned about the labour as i know it can be fatal to newborns. i have spoken to my midwife who informs me that i will have to have IV treatment during labour to prevent transmission to baby. anyone else in this predicament?

thanks as i have been on several websites and they can be quite alarming, i suppose it is more dangerous if you are unaware you have it so i guess i ma lucky that they found it before.

I had antibiotics for strep B during my labour, and still had the home birth I'd planned.

My ds1 contracted it - presumably from me - but we had no prior warning. He was given antibiotics from 10 days old and is now a strapping lad of 13

Strep B was detected when I was in labour with DS1-we were kept in for obs for 3 days. With DS2 I had IV antibiotics during labour and were again kept in for 3 days to check that he was ok

I also tested positive for Strep B during DS2 pg. Have a look at this web site as it will just give you the facts - most of them are very scary as they can be written by people with direct personal experience iyswim.
