Clomid pregnancy and care

Hi all
We are ttc for 5 years now with PCOS.and over weight as well. Was on Clomid 50 mg for 3 months with no luck. And was on Clomid 100mg last month and got my first ever BFP this month. Been to GP last Monday (9/5/16) she said as I have got the clear lie digital positive she confirmed me that I am pregnant and said she will refer me to midwife. i am 5+4 now. But I feel like my period going to come any minute now. Any one of you feel the same. And do we get any extra care as we going to have a Clomid baby.

Hi, I got my BFP last week due to clomid, had a couple of months at 50mg but it was 100mg that did it for me too. Someone on here mentioned about being entitled to an early scan when you've been on clomid so I mentioned it to the Dr who thought that was reasonable and I know have that booked in for next week! They actually said they'd do it this Friday but I thought that was too early and wanted to make sure that it wasn't too early to see a heartbeat so I pushed it back a week.
So I'd def ask for an early scan, even if its just to see if you have more than one in there (as the chance of this increases with Clomid). I also added to the fact that I had scans earlier this year and due to low estrogen, my womb looked a little small and lining thin, so I wanted to make sure that's all ok now too.

Glad your doctor is very supportive. My Gp is a bit not very supportive. I saw her 10 days back and she said she will refer me. But I called midwife today just to know that they haven't got any referral yet. Got very disappointed. Is it your 1st pregnancy?? Glad got some one who is in same boat as me. Good luck

I don't much about the clomid but I do know early pregnancy and rubbish gp's!

I always felt crampy and like I was going to come on in both of my early pregnancys so try not to worry. Maybe try speaking to your gp again if not could you afford a private scan? The gp refused to give us an early scan for different reasons and we went private at 7+4 (I think)

I had IVF and haven't received any extra care. We had a scan at 6 weeks which was part of the treatment and then referred to the midwife by my GP. Normal care from then on. Good luck!

I have had a scan through my IVF clinic and a private scan with my IVF pregnancy. I don't think you get any extras on the NHS if it's assisted fertility unless there are other risk factors.

Also having 12 week scan privately as I booked a package with NIPT testing and they seem much more thorough.

Yes it is my first and also been TTC for a long time, although only ovulated in the last 3 months.

I actually didn't see my usual GP who I have been seeing regarding the clomid and sent me for previous scans etc, so I was wondering what his response would be to my request but he seemed to think it was a reasonable request, especially when I said about the results of the previous scan (although I know it will be improved since then to allow for implantation and I wasn't having periods at that point either). I did kind of word it like, "I understand that due to being on Clomid, I'm entitled to an early scan" so maybe that helped?

If after some pushing from you (mention the cramping, whilst nothing to worry about I'm sure, it might help the request) and if they still don't let you have one, go for a private one. I would have done as 12 weeks is just so long away and after the journey to get to this point, I felt I needed the reassurance before then, it will be worth it, even if it is £80/100.

Thanks for all your kind words. I am glad to hear that these cramps are fine during this time. I called my Gp they said that they sent the referral to midwife but midwife saying they haven't received one. I am already tensed a lot and on top of that this all this. I am just 5+4 now to go to private scan how long do you guys recommend to wait before I go for private scan.

You need to be a minimum of 6 weeks for a scan but if you can wait till 7 weeks you are likely to see a bit more. The heart doesn't start beating until 6 weeks and if you're a little behind the dates you think you are, it will save any heartache and having to go back. It was the reason I put my scan back, I'll be 1 day off 7 weeks when I have mine.

I had mine at 7 + 3 - heartbeat was very clear although he couldn't see anything until he used the trans-vaginal scanner.

My last period 1st date I'd 8th April if my counting is correct then I must be 5+4 today isn't it.
Please correct me if my counting is wrong😢😢

No that's right, my last period started on the 9th April so we're a day apart. Try and get a scan anytime from the end of next week.

Will try to book for private scan but my DH is moaning a bit saying nothing wrong if we wait till 12 th week. He is not understanding my pain

Extra care for a clomid baby?

Clomid is one of the first drugs used in infertility. It's not that special. Speak to the women who have put themselves through IVF which carries a whole host of risks!

I know this baby will feel super precious and special but do they your hopes up. Unless there is something else happening it will never be referred to a clomid pregnancy. This is a good thing!

We had ds1 using clomid and didn't receive, or need, any extra care - it isn't like Ivf where you may have an early scan.
Midwives here don't see any pregnant women until you are 8-10 weeks pregnant and then you are sent for your scan at 12 weeks approx
To be honest after all the tests and procedures to get there we were glad to forget all of that and focus just on the pregnancy

I wasn't in the UK at the time, but for my Clomid baby I had a dating scan at 6-7 weeks, regular scans at 13 and 20 weeks and then a growth scan at 32 weeks.

I don't think it's really fair to say "just think what ivf parents are going though". Of course that is more serious but any sort of trouble conceiving is heartbreaking for the couple and if they can get a bit of reassurance then what's the harm in that?

Were you monitored throughout this cycle to see how many follicles you had around when you ovulated? I'm surprised you're not offered a slightly earlier dating scan with clomid as it's such a full on drug and increases the odds of multiples.

Having said that, if you can't wait until the 12 week scan then just pay for a private one, like everyone else.

Been to midwife yesterday
They refused for the early scan. Said that Clomid 100mg is not the heavy dose so no need to worry and said I will get the scan booked from 11-14 weeks. I am overweight as well BMI 36. So they gave folic acid 5mg tablets. BP was ok110/70. Regarding the private scan DH is not very supportive more than the money he says that of doctors think it's not necessary then it is not necessary. For me I don't want to go by myself without him. I just pray that everything goes fine. But don't leave about the private scan. Will keep pushing my DH
