Back to Back babies any hints for turning?

My Best Friend is Due any time and has been told that her baby is back to back.
This is her 2nd baby and she had the same problem 1st time round and doesn't want to go through what she did last time.
She is trying accupuncture as recomended by her midwife but would like some cheaper ideas too!

optimal foetal positioning

lulumama · 13/01/2007 21:33

this is a good thread, with other good links on it!

she should not lie on her back for labour if baby remains OP...and needs to try to stay active and upright as much as she can.....so baby has as much chance as possible of moving to ROA.....

walking upstairs sideways is good

OP babies make for a longer labour, with pain in the back and slower dilation, but they can most certainly be birthed vaginally !

Erm, I had 3 of these. There are loads of techniques to try and I did all of them but they all stayed put.

Googling Optimal Foetal Positioning gives quite a few good resources

The good news is that even if baby is in OP position going into labour, your positions during labour can do a lot to help it turn. Leaning over the bed and delivering on all fours helped me twice.

Quite often OP babies can be late, as the cervix does not get the correct stimulation to dilate, I believe.

Also, you can be longer in the latent phase of labour with contractions niggling away for days before kicking in properly.

lulumama · 13/01/2007 21:37

agree ceolas..although my OP baby arrived on her due date ! but did have niggles and a show for a week before !

Her ds was a week early and a couple of weeks ago she was having contractions!
She is in CID and is in court all next week so it will probably start in the middle of that

my ds was back to back wen i 1st went into labour in one sense i was lucky it took 30 more hours for him to arrive i was told to lean forward and swing hips side to side
