Has anyone else had Hydronephrosis in pregnancy? How was it managed? X

Me! On both of my kidneys (classed as moderate, with left one being worse), with a puj obstruction on both. My consultant (pregnancy, not urologist) was very much just take paracetamol if it hurst (it does!). I've had 3 UTIs. It's more complicated for me as I had kidney surgery 14 years ago on my right kidney to widen the exit (remove the puj obstruction). I was really shocked when the consultant just said to carry on as normal as the sonographer had been a bit more doom and gloom. The pain isn't horrendous but it does keep me awake if I'm not dosed up and I don't like the idea of not knowing if they're getting worse. I haven't got a UTI at the moment but I assume I'll get another one soon. I'm quite fed up. In seeing my gp in Thursday about something else and might ask to be referred to a urologist as I felt a little fobbed off by the pregnancy consultant. My kidneys are tested annually and last year they were fine. It might be that no lasting damage is done as my dr said they normally correct themselves after birth. Oh and I'm 34 weeks tomorrow.

What about you?

In my left kidney and my pregnancy consultant was the same. 'Just take painkillers every day' :(
I've fussed and fussed and got urologist tomorrow. It's painful some days and uncomfortable on others. It's so frustrating to be fobbed off isn't it? I'm 28 weeks x

You've made me feel better about asking my gp to see a urologist! I hope the urologist is more helpful tomorrow. Keep me posted please.

Me again. I have just got back from the hospital. I had horrible kidney pain that paracetamol did nothing to help and kept me awake so ended up ringing maternity triage. Went in for monitoring etc. and left with some amazing drugs! Co-codamol is the best invention ever. They think I've got another UTI so I've got new antibiotics too. This dr was surprised I hadn't been referred to the urologist straight away considering my history. I'm going try and book that in (she couldn't do it herself). I feel relived that someone didn't just fob me off like last time!

Sorry you've been in hospital :(

I don't expect to be seen quickly but a referral should be given in these circumstances. It's a horrible pain isn't it?
Hope you feel better today xx

The urologist was surprised but I haven't had the pain since so I'm hoping it's gone for good. How are you getting on? Xx

I didn't know that was even possible! Congratulations though, that's great. I've finally got a urologist appointment for Wednesday so will wait and see what they say.
