I am 13 weeks pg now - do I stop taking folic acid? Have been taking it since pre-conception.

Honestly, you'd think I would know the answer but I've forgotten

Yes - first 12 weeks are the crucial times.

I thought that - ie if I continued to take it now it would have no effect? (sorry to be dim )

not with regard to helping to reduce the risk of spina bifida etc.

I took it until very late on (maybe even throughout, can't quite remember) with ds, but the recommendation is to take it until 12 weeks so it won't hurt if you stop. I think after a while I was taking it more out of habit than anything.
