Down's Syndrome Pregnancy Screening (Scotland)

I've been reading lots of posts where people have been describing their level of risk on letters they have received. I received my screening letter this morning which just states 'low chance' however there is no ratio mentioned.

Is this just the normal practice in Scotland?

Yes its standard when i got my last test 19 yrs ago there was just low risk (I think) on the test results

Yes totally normal in Scotland. Mine is the same.

I was given a number in both pregnancies - first was nearly one in 10,000 and second (currently pg) was one in 27,000.

I'm in England but my letter also just said "low". However the midwife had the figures and discussed with me at my next appointment.

I'm in Glasgow and letter was as yours but midwife told me actual numerical risk at next appointment.

I'm in Scotland and was given the actual, very specific ratio with my result. I'm sure if you specifically ask, it will be on file.

In scotland and given a ratio ie 1in 90000 chance.

My midwife appointment is not until the end of May so I think I will phone the number on the letter and see if they can give me any more information.

I'm in Fife and my low risk letter was the same.

Lothians here. I was given a ratio in my letter. Something like 1 in 27,000 or similar.

Woah, I thought my risk was was nice and low until I saw all these extremely low ones on here. I wish they could be sure, but without the need for risky amnio or pricey Harmony.

MrsPickwick you can drive yourself mad worrying about figures, which I think is behind many NHS trusts not giving them out in the letters. If I recall correctly the NHS won't recommend amnio/CVS for risk below 1:150 and I think we just have to trust that this is based on solid medical data and research.

My own risk is 1:1200, which is nothing like any of the figures mentioned above but the midwife told me it was "nice and low for your age". I am 42 so was fully expecting to be high risk and have further testing. I suprised myself with how comfortable I was with the figure they gave me and having had serious fears about trisomy before the screening I really haven't given it a second thought since the result.

Glasgow here mine just said low risk but I didn't receive the original letter when I had called to ask why I didn't hear mw said I was low and asked if I wanted figures I said no, I reasoned if I'm low the figures don't mean much to me.

In greater Glasgow they just say high or low risk. I got low risk downs, high risk neural tube defects but baby is OK.

My letter said low risk then I asked the mw what it was at my next appointment.
