I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
links.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Have seen Dr but he doesn't want to give me meds yet as the puking is still quite new. Fair enough. So for now I am just resting at home and sipping water. Can go back to dr for meds if it gets worse though.

RaeSkywalker · 17/05/2016 20:37

Alice I bet your GP was just sticking to step 1 of the NICE guidelines (reassure patient that sickness and nausea are normal in pregnancy, suggest ginger, etc). If you are struggling it's ok to go back.

I had this from an out of hours GP when I'd been in bed for 3 days, throwing up every time I sipped water. DH had to half carry me into the consultation room (no exaggeration) because I was too weak to walk. I wish I'd said it wasn't normal then Sad

Alicekeach · 17/05/2016 20:45

I puked twice during the consultation, so I think the GP has a pretty good idea. I will go back if I can't keep anything down over the next few days.

RaeSkywalker · 17/05/2016 21:09

Poor you. Hope it settles down then Flowers

Rocket1982 · 17/05/2016 21:21

Alice welcome. You sound dehydrated. Easily done if you are throwing up continuously for more more than a day or two. I think you should get a ketone check at the GP (if you can't quickly get ketostix yourself) as you may need help (e.g IV fluids) getting rehydrated. HG can be more common with twins. Hope you get some effective help soon!

rae best of luck tomorrow! I hope you get some positive effects of work (e.g satisfaction or stimulation) as well as the inevitable tiredness! Do take it easy!

OK here but I had to work from home on Monday (which also involved a 3 hour nap) to recover from Saturday. At 15 weeks I'm impatient to start recovering and doing more, but I think I just need to be patient as it will probably be another month or more.

icklekid · 18/05/2016 08:18

Good luck for today rae hope you made it in all right and that you don't push yourself too much today!

Welcome alice as others have said just make sure that you do rest and that if sickness is no better in next day or two go back and explain how you are feeling. I was on medication even with 'just' morning sickness last pregnancy. It allowed me to function at work and generally cope! This time have been very dehydrated as many on this thread and honestly would advise you seek help before that point!

Well sickness continued all day and evening last night. Not been sick so far this morning but feeling pretty dreadful. Not helped by ds having a tantrum when we got to childminders this morning. It was raining and then dh had car problems! We swapped cars and ds car seat which totally confused him. When we got inside childminders he just wanted to run out and see dh- who wasn't there! Eventually distracted him but really didn't need that this morning!

Chocoholic26 · 18/05/2016 10:10

Thanks lucinda. Rocket hope you're finding time to rest. Unsure if this is your first or not? With my first I returned to work on phased return at 16weeks and it wasn't really until about 20 weeks that I felt more normal and was sick only once a day. Hopefully it won't be long for you too.

Oh no ickle hope you're feeling a bit better and the stressful childminder run hasn't made you feel worse. I'm so thankful that my mum has got my ds today. Our parents and inlaws are being great and taking him as normal as if I'm still in work. I'm finding it so hard to even get out of bed though. Getting up and getting ds up and changed is such a big task. Those of you looking after children all day I really hold my hat off to you, don't know how I'd cope. Although fee terrible for ds. The nausea is starting to wake me up during the night too and struggling to get a good stretch of sleep. I'm also concerned about the folic acid. Once I've been sick I'm worried I am bringing it back up and it's not effective. Going to start taking it at night before bed and see if that helps.

Hi Alice hope you're managing to rest up and aren't feeling too horrendous. I've only been on this thread a few days but everyone is so lovely, really makes you feel that you're not alone and all of the advice is great!

icklekid · 18/05/2016 12:25

chocoholic if it helps I gave up with folic acid in the end, I so rarely kept them down it seemed pointless to add an extra sickness episode into every day!

rae hoping your home from work- how was it? Lots of rest for rest of the afternoon

Well after swapping cars this morning with dh, my car (the one he took) broke down on the m1! Dh has been sat on a layby for 4 hours waiting for RAC... I feel bad but obviously no way I could have known!!!

SeaEagleFeather · 18/05/2016 13:08

Hallo chocoholic Sorry to hear your boss was so awful though at least he had the grace to apologize. Prochlorperazine is pretty effective for many people with HG. Sometimes people have to try a couple to find what works for them, or they find a combination works (they all work in different ways) but a lot of people say good things about prochlorperazine

alice congratulations on your double-joy! wow.

It is worth askign for meds now, certainly cyclizine as everyone says. Can't add anything more to what everyone's said. Just keep an eye on your ketones.

shopaholic HG -does- change a lot! it's really normal to have a good day (or three ) then a bad one or a few bad ones.

But once you get one good day, it's a sign that things might be improving.

sleepymrsE lovely to hear you're having a few good days!

rocket Ive added omeprazole to the list ... so many people have said it helps :)

rae lovely to hear some of the baby joy is creeping in. HG does put a damper on things for some time! Really nice when it finally starts to seem real =)

The cyclzine will def be helping your hayfever. It was sold first for hayfever! :) It makes some people sleepy though and the new generation of anti-hayfever-stuff is much less soporific.

ickle good to hear you will be starting physio. Sending you strength to cope with the next few days ...

RaeSkywalker · 18/05/2016 13:38

Rocket hope you're feeling better today.

Oh ickle sorry you feel bad. It always happens all at once doesn't it (car issues, toddler tantrums).

Chocoholic I hope you have better luck with taking the folic acid at night!

Thanks for the cyclizine info SeaEagle!

I got home from work an hour ago- did 8-12. It was ok, I think really I'd had enough after 2 hours so I will listen to my body more tomorrow. I did enjoy being back and seeing everyone again, and it's nice to be away from home where I'm dependent on DH for everything. I enjoyed having something to contribute! I definitely think that mornings might be the way forward- even though the early start was awful, I managed to leave rather than dealing with all the lunch smells!

LucindaE · 18/05/2016 13:39

Just dashing on to say Alicekeach Mother Hen says cluck, cluck, do check your urine for signs of deyhydration with kesostix from any chemists.
I am a bit puzzled why the doctor is so relaxed about it, if it's been going on for a few days, and you find it hard to retain water, as if a pregnant woman's been unable to retain water for above twenty-four hours, I thought it was seen as a medical emergency? Usually they admit for fluids if your ketones are 3+ on the kesostix chart.
Sorry I didn't congratulate you on your twins. From what i've seen on these threads, people expecting twins suffer badly at first but often recover quickly. Perhaps because it's only the extra hormones of a twin pregnancy which may have tipped them over into having Hyperemesis, and they wouldn't have had it with a singleton pregnancy, so there's some hope you will recover early.
Waves to everyone. Great advice as ever. Back soon.

Huge congratulations madrigal. What a cutie! Hope you're enjoying all the food you can eat whilst cuddling your gorgeous bundle.

LucindaE · 19/05/2016 17:35

Madrigal What a lovely baby - so happy for you. [grb]FlowersWineCakeBrewFlowersStar You were very stoic, and unlucky enough to suffer a nasty return in the third tri. Nearly 9lbs! That's amazing. I hope it was an easy birth.
I hope everyone's coping today with doctors and midwives and bosses being angelic, and OH's and LO's and people offering seats and nobody offering ginger. In other words, the sort of ideal world only to be found beneaht the covers of a romantic novel...

Just popping in quickly from holiday to send huge congratulations to madrigal , what lovely news and beautiful photo. I hope you are both doing well and enjoy some food my love, you've earned it!!
Waves to everyone else, back soon xx

RaeSkywalker · 20/05/2016 09:35

Morning all, hope everyone is feeling ok!

I did 4 hour days at work on Wednesday and Thursday, but am not going in today for fear of overdoing it. My boss said I looked very tired yesterday so not to come in. I'm relieved! Planning to spend today sleeping and (hopefully) not throwing up too much!

DH was out last night so I had to prepare my own food for the first time in 2 months. It took me 45 minutes of panic to decide on something to eat. I'm just so scared of food at the moment! Weirdly, the only thing I fancied was beans on toast, which I ate thinking "I'll enjoy it but I know I'll be throwing this up in a bit"... And weirdly, I wasn't sick!! Probably just a fluke but am quite proud of myself today thank goodness DH is back to preparing the food tonight

LucindaE · 20/05/2016 09:55

Good morning everyone from me. I am worried about AliceKeach she sounded as if she was heading for hospitalisation, and we haven't heard from her.
Rae Your boss sounded great - I wish everyone's had that attitude. Do take it gradually! Good news about beans on toast. They are full of protein, too.. Has "Rocket been overdoing it? I hope ickle* is feeling a bit better.
Waves to SeaEagle and hopes everyone is more or less OK today.

Morning ladies. Congrats to madrigal what a gorgeous baby. Takes me back to a year ago when my first was born. It's such a lovely time, hope you are enjoying every moment! Rae glad your boss is being supportive, bet you feel relieved about having a day to recuperate. Brill news about the beans on toast! I'm currently struggling to get out of bed and I'm the same as you in terms of not knowing what to eat. It's such a horrible cycle. I feel so ill that I can't face food but then my stomach feels so empty that I know I should eat something but by the time I've eaten it I'm nauseous again! The only thing I'm really enjoying just now are strawberries! Just about to send dh out for more as he is off today and ds is having a nap. I do however now fancy some beans on toast. Hope everyone else is ok today!

RaeSkywalker · 20/05/2016 10:52

Yes Alice, I hope you're ok.

Lucinda Horray for protein! Hopefully the baby will appreciate it. My boss is amazing, she's a brilliant manager. I'm very very lucky.

Chocoholic sorry you're struggling too. Like you say, I think we are in fairly similar states! Good news about the strawberries though. I can't believe how indecisive I am about food now, got quite upset last night knowing I 'should' eat but not wanting anything. I hope if you go for beans on toast it doesn't make you ill!

Alicekeach · 20/05/2016 14:12

Hello all, thanks for worrying about me. Slightly embarrassed as I am feeling a bit better Blush. Certainly not in hospital! Vomitting is much better and eyesight is improving. Went to opticians today for a check up and they are sure that the blurry vision is down to hormonal changes rather than anything sinister, thankfully.

I am still off work but will go back on Monday. Rather dreading that as it's an open plan office and I don't get much notice when I need to puke......
