I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
links.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

NorthernLights Welcome. I am so sorry you have this worry as well as Hyperemesis. I don't know of a connection between high risk results and Hyperemesis, for all I know, there may be one, I'm really sorry I don't know more, but I do know that amysmummy (baby just delivered) had a very high risk of Downs, one in four, I think. All was fine. I had a high risk though not as bad, one in thirty-three, and all was fine. Really thinking of you. What meds are you on, and how are the liquids staying down? Usual question, have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration? Of course, stress makes the sickness far worse.
amysmummy How lovely she is! How dramatic! How wonderfully capable of OH, he must be very proud. His finest hour. So glad you arrived at the Pink Castle via the dual carriageway. Flowers GrinBrewCakeFlowers
icklekid Really sorry about that disappointment. I think its brave to attempt any exercise with Hyperemesis, so don't feel you are anything but heroic for going.
Rae Can you get the time limit for it extended, in the circumstances?
Waves to SleepymrsE almondbutter Chocoholic and everyone...
MotherofPearl Lovely to hear from you, as ever.
Apologies to anyone overlooked.

Hi Lucinda,
Thanks for your reply. I've got a risk of 1/5.

I'm on odansetron and rinitidine - struggling with constipation thanks to tablets!
Can only drink full fat coke at the mo- which I know isn't great but it's keeping my hydrated and helping with calories. I've got the wee sticks! Had a couple of admissions and been given injections. Thankfully very little vomitting but nausea and generally feeling like I've been hit by a bus is the norm. Been off work for four weeks.

Thanks so much for replying X

Northernlights123 · 01/06/2016 17:58

Congratulations amysmummy xx

RaeSkywalker · 01/06/2016 18:15

Lucinda I don't think so but I guess we could try!

Northern my friend was advised by a consultant to drink full fat coke when she had HG. It's obviously a 'thing'!

mrsmonkey14 · 01/06/2016 19:02

Welcome northern I'm not aware of a link between HG and nuchal results either. I did have harmony test though so I know the feeling waiting for results - thinking of you. Harmony is great as non intrusive and gives real piece of mind - where I had it they will do amnio for free in case of a positive result.
Good luck, I know it's horrible waiting.

Thanks for all the well wishes, scan today went well thank you. Baby is quite big (how??!!) and has ridiculously long legs and arms (95th centile), clearly from DH as I am a shortie. Anyway she seems perfectly healthy which is a relief. I've been back to hospital but fortunately not admitted again. Saw consultant and he has upped my Ondansetron to max dose and suggested sugary drinks. Absolutely exhausted from long day (scan in diff place to hospital so lots of travelling - in taxi as too weak to manage public transport). Just got home, crawled upstairs to vomit in toilet and now in bed. Night all! X

eallison88 · 01/06/2016 19:37

northernlights welcome and sorry you're suffering. On a purely anecdotal level from my experience with this board, I've nut noticed any link between HG and screwed test results. I can't imagine how difficult the waiting is for you. How are you managing your sickness/nausea? Sugary drinks are actually quite good for keeping the ketones under control. Are there any foods you're managing? I wouldn't worry too much about eating healthily! My boy grew to 9lb on a diet pretty much of tinned peaches and Fanta (with ice lollies and the odd chip shop chip and scotch pancake thrown in!)

mrsmonkey there really does seem to be a correlation between big bouncy babies and HG mummies! They really do take everything we have and leave nothing for us!

Hoping everyone has had a manageable day

RaeSkywalker · 01/06/2016 20:22

mrsmonkey I'm so pleased that the scan went well! Hope that you get a decent rest tonight.

amysmummy12345 · 01/06/2016 21:07

Hi all, home from the hospital safe and sound, adjusting to life as a foursome!
northern I had 1/5 chance and had CVS which came back clear, it was such an awful time though waiting for the results, bit today I have birth to the most beautiful, prefect bundle so there is hope!!

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, we are smitten!! 6lb 13oz of lovliness!! The post birth toast and tea was unbelievable!!!

eallison88 · 01/06/2016 21:38

amysmummy oh the tea and toast. Best damned tea and toast I've ever had!

SleepymrsE · 02/06/2016 08:06

Hope you had a good first night at home amys.

northern good luck with the results today. I will be thinking of you. One of my close friends went through similar with her last baby. Even with a 1 in 2 chance, everything was fine.

Great news on the scan front mrsmonkey, again another big HG baby. Hope the sickness stays down and that things get on an even keel again.

nutty and almond I hope you're both doing ok.

Hi to ickle, rae and everyone else.

amysmummy12345 · 02/06/2016 11:31

Decent first night, Amy slept through for a change!! Baby was cluster feeding Confused so was up and down, on and off boob all night... Thanks for asking mrsM!! Good luck today northern Flowers

almondbutter · 02/06/2016 11:39

Good example of life with HG: needing to eat a biscuit so I don't pass out. Eating the biscuit incredibly slowly. Not having the energy to brush the crumbs off after, even though there's chocolate melting down your maternity bra.

Northernlights123 · 02/06/2016 11:46

Hi ladies
Was on way to hosp for the amnio when got harmony phone call to say it is low risk and a girl! So relieved!
Thanks so much for all of your support last night.
Still went to hosp and saw consultant who was going to carry out amnio and he was fab. He also reviewed my HG meds so hoping it will settle a bit.

Amy's mummy- thank you for taking time out, at such a busy time for you, to give me your similar experience! So glad that amy is here safe and sound xxxxx

mrsmonkey14 · 02/06/2016 12:44

Great news northern ! A relief for you I bet.
Ha ha almond 😄
amys glad it's going well, enjoy the newborn snuggles.
Ketones up again this morning, threw up a lot last night, thrown up breakfast but kept a bit of diluted juice down this morning... I think I might have to go back in 😟
Ideas for sugary drinks? Consultant said don't bother with water and I'm not even going to attempt to eat just yet so need something with a bit of energy. I don't like fizzy drinks really but ok if I let them go flat first. I've got some tinned fruit so will try juice of that. Any other ideas?

almondbutter · 02/06/2016 13:23

mrsmonkey take it easy, fingers crossed for a better afternoon.

I have been on the original Lucozade and when I want something sharper or more sour, the San Pellegrino cans, either pomegranate or grapefruit.
How would a cordial with water be for you, like elderflower or Ribena even? Plenty sugar in those.

RaeSkywalker · 02/06/2016 13:29

Good news Northern.

Glad that night 1 was ok amys.

mrsmonkey flat coke, flat lemondade, lucozade sport. I hope that you don't need to go back in.

mrsmonkey14 · 02/06/2016 13:47

Good suggestions, thanks, just trying to muster energy to walk to shop to buy some new drinks to try. Ribena cartons generally good if I drink v slowly.

Freshbreadandfaith · 02/06/2016 13:54

Congratulations Amy's!!!!!

Freshbreadandfaith · 02/06/2016 13:57

Is anyone else getting sinus headaches? I don't know if it's hg connected at all? I feel so rough by late pm I'm going to bed earlier and earlier as I'm urging by 6pm, tiring looking after four year old dd too..... The whole thing is exhausting!

eallison88 · 02/06/2016 16:51

northern what a relief for you.

amysmummy ah cluster feeding, I don't miss that! Tho I do miss hubby running round after me...

almond you paint a wry picture. One of my midwives kept nagging me to eat during labour. Hubby kept offering me hobnobs and I took nibbles. I thought I'd managed 3 or 4 hobnobs... It later transpired (when I got home) that I'd managed about a third of one biscuit! Take this easy and look after yourself.

mrsmonkey orange fanta was my go to. Pre pregnancy fuzzy drinks were guaranteed to make me sick. How ridiculous. Have you tried ice lollies? I found them good. Calyppos especially.

SleepymrsE · 02/06/2016 17:56

mrsmonkey sorry to hear it's not going so well. I too would agree, ice lollies - the cheap ice poles were OK for me. Why is it so difficult to drink water for all of us. I can't do cordial either. Can manage apple juice but it does sometimes kick off the heartburn. Oh and trusty milkshake.

Fab news northern - must be a huge relief! Now for all the girlie shopping you can manage.

MotherofPearl · 02/06/2016 18:21

MrsMonkey, how about sparkling elderflower presse? I found that delicious. And I second Almond's suggestion of San Pellegrino cans. I liked the blood orange one. Hope you've not been readmitted.
Fresh, I didn't suffer from sinus headaches but totally relate about exhaustion.

mrsmonkey14 · 02/06/2016 18:30

fresh are you on Ondansetron? As that used to give me headaches at the beginning, it is one of the side effects listed.
It may just be tiredness and dehydration though?

Orange Fanta is not for me! I've got some lucozade, just waiting for it to go flat. Ice lollies are usually good I agree, but I had one last night when I got back from hospital then promptly threw it up so don't fancy them at mo!
Consultant was surprised when I said milk was good, I felt like telling him about our little HG community which confirms milky stuff generally does go down ok! 😉

LucindaE · 02/06/2016 20:41

NorthernLights That's wonderful news! I am so happy for you.
mrsmonkey Oh dear, about vomiting having been bad. I do hope you avoid an admission.
amysmummy Thank you so much for coming on when in those busy first days. Lovely to hear from you. Lol, the marching, waddling and lurching walk seemed to do the trick and bring on labour even faster than you had thought! Lovely to hear from MotherofPearl and our ever exellent eallison too.
Freshbread Sorry to hear of headaches. as mrsmonkey says, a number of people do seem to get those with Ondansetron. Always worth mentioning to the doctor who prescibed it.
almondbutter Great advice about elderflower water. That is so nice, and as you say, sugary.
On full sugar coke, I remember when I had a stomach bug abroad it was recommended by the tour guide as an anti nausea remedy if left to go flat. I fell back on that when suffering from Hyperemesis, and a lot of people seem to find it useful.
Waves to SleepymrsE and everyone.
Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.
