I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
links.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

rae I read Amy a very politically incorrect 1960s Enid Byton story book when I first had her 😊 this time I'll be mumsnetting it lol 😁

almondbutter · 27/05/2016 21:21

Lucinda I work for myself from home, so that has made a difference to my ability to continue. How those of you with long commutes and harsh managers and less than nice work loos cope I do not know.
It's been better almost all ways around to be self employed but for one thing, which is that when other friends with office jobs have been signed off work for weeks with sickness, that's that for work for them for that time. For me, so long as my laptop is looking at me on the table I feel guilty and like I should be working. After this week's trip to the hospital however, I have given myself a week with zero work and zero guilt and then we'll see how I go after that.

Alicekeach · 27/05/2016 21:57

Hello again all, glad everyone is muddling on through. I have felt much better today, thank goodness. Not right, but better. I fine that if I can keep taking on small amounts of food at regular intervals, the nausea is bearable. Once my tummy gets halfway to empty this horrible rolling sensation starts and I feel as though puking will quickly follow, unless I eat something.

Have had another scan and all is ok with the twins. Due date is the end of December but I'm told that twins generally come early.

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 22:04

Haha amys maybe steer clear of some of the AIBU threads Grin

almond glad you're having a week off: r.e. work toilets- there is another woman at my work who is due a couple of days after me. I was throwing up countless times a day obviously and she was sick a couple of times before lunch. We can't understand how we managed to time it so that we were never in the loos at the same time!

Alice glad you're managing to eat a little. Are you drinking too? I was so relieved to have early scans, it perked me up a bit when I was at my lowest ebb.

Rocket82 · 27/05/2016 22:44

alice glad you are feeling a bit better and the twins are doing fine!

Today I'm appreciating both my meds. Cyclizine after my recent experiment and omeprazole as I threw up part of the dose this morning, and this evening has been bad. I'm thankful that they are allowing me to function! Tomorrow must keep them all down....

RubyReins · 28/05/2016 00:44

stumbles in Greetings ladies. So delighted to read about the new arrivals to MOP, reebok, madrigal, spandeau and squeezed (apols to those missed).

You are all heroines. It is unbelievably hard and it feels as though it will never end but it does, it really does. My gorgeous wee scone is 15 weeks tomorrow and the rock solid women on this thread (and its previous incarnations) properly kept me going during some rather bleak times. I freaked my family out a bit by saying "look what you can make with food and sex - it's a primeval bake off".

Stay strong, immerse yourself in the good words here and tell everyone who recommends ginger, complete with head tilt, to have a word with themselves.

Lots of love and you will be cuddling your squidgy babies soon. X

icklekid · 28/05/2016 06:22

Good to hear from you amysmummy not long at all and sickness is over! Thanks for link to spandau birth had posted reply but not checked who the op was! Hope feeling better soon Sad

ruby congratulations on your baby hope you are managing to get some rest and relief from hg!

rocket fingers crossed for keeping all medication down- it definitely made a big difference when I could too!

rae good effort on you and your colleague on avoiding each other in work toilets- my first pregnancy was only 1 toilet near my classroom so all staff knew and pretended not too!

alice twins for christmas how lovely! Knowing when and what you can eat can be really helpful at keeping sickness at bay. Hope you keep on top of the worst of it!

almond whilst I can certainly see advantage of no commute/pressure from boss I imagine it is much harder to stop working even when you feel dreadful. I hope you can rest if it gets too bad- do you have big projects or is it more ongoing work? Are there other people who can help if it gets too much?

Well my mil was wonderful yesterday as was the physio at helping me deal with back pain. Starting pregnancy pilates next week which should be good. Told dh he will need to look after ds the next 3 days for me to cope with following 4! I am currently creating a survivial plan with people to help with ds every day over half term- hope you approve mother hen 😉

RaeSkywalker · 28/05/2016 06:35

Rocket hope you have better luck with keeping the meds down today. Hopefully you had a good sleep.

Ruby lovely to hear from you! I'm thinking of getting a T-Shirt with "yes, I've tried ginger, thanks" on the front so that all I need to do is point in future. The number of HCPs that have suggested it too when I was clearly a bit beyond 'ginger stage'! Wishing you lots of joy with your little one.

ickle the survival plan sounds like a very good idea. Glad that your MIL was helpful! Hope that the Pilates goes well- I keep meaning to book a class but am hanging on in the hope that the HG will clear off first.

We're going to see DH's goddaughter today. Usually see them regularly but I haven't for 2 months because I've been too ill, so DH has been going alone. I'm normally on the floor playing with her so I hope she doesn't think I've become boring!

Freshbreadandfaith · 28/05/2016 09:38

Poor spandeau!!!! Xxx

almondbutter · 28/05/2016 11:25

ickle I am a journalist and researcher, so my deadlines can be anything from a day to four weeks. However I have a rough idea of what sort of time frame each client works on, so I can turn down anything I know is unrealistic. There's no one who can help with the work itself, though DH has been editing my stuff (he's an ex journo) even more carefully than usual before I send it off; the sickness has wrecked my brain and concentration.

How's everyone doing today? Finding it frustrating having friends asking about bank holiday weekend and telling me their lovely plans. 'Er, I am lying in bed watching Netflix. AGAIN.' We were meant to be going to Scotland for the weekend but cancelled because of the state I'm in.

RaeSkywalker · 28/05/2016 11:52

Morning almond, sorry you've had to cancel your plans. I was in bed all over the 4 day Easter weekend. My whole family were going to camp in my cousin's garden and have a party/ BBQ/ egg hunt. There are over 40 of us, it's so much fun. DH and I missed out this year Sad. I'm just resting this morning to try and make sure I'm ok for our visit later. Hope you manage to get a decent rest at the very least.

Poor DH had a really stressful week at work so he's shattered and a bit fed up. He's so laid back normally, I haven't seen him like this in over a year. Feeling a bit guilty as he's obviously still having to look after me on top of everything else!

almondbutter · 28/05/2016 13:01

Feel free to laugh me out of here, but how are you all doing on the exercise front relative to how far along you are with HG and treatment and doctor's advice?
I am currently at the exhausted by walking to the corner shop stage but I want to work back up to being more active so long as it's not exhausting and doesn't put me back with progress.

RaeSkywalker · 28/05/2016 13:19

I used to do 7 hours of high intensity cardio a week, and then a couple of hours of weights. HG kicked in at 5 weeks and I've done precisely nothing since then! I think I might try an aqua-natal class in a few weeks if I still feel ok.

mrsmonkey14 · 28/05/2016 13:30

Hi everyone... Am completely on my knees here so will keep it short... Solo parenting for 2nd day in a row and I'm completely exhausted. Could barely push the pram back from the park this morning. DD is fortunately being delightful but I'm just struggling with the physical parenting, just put her down for a nap and I feel like collapsing in a heap. Pelvis totally wrecked which isn't helping!

Anyway moan over. At least I haven't been sick for a few days, although not eaten much as usual.

Oh exercise! I miss it so much, used to find it so helpful for my mental health. I carried on during first trimester but all I've done for months now is walking and pregnancy pilates (although not been for ages). I could weep at the wasted gym membership (now finally cancelled). I nearly went to an outdoor class the other Eve and then remembered I would be wiped out by the time I got to the park! I'm consoling myself with plans for lots of exercise post birth... Round here there's lots of classes you can take baby to.

Sorry to all those with boring /cancelled BH weekend plans. At least I knew not to make any plans that needed cancelling. But it can be rather isolating when everyone is full of cheer due to long weekend and you feel like you're missing out.

Gentle hugs to all. Back soon with proper messages to everyone xx

DaintyHippos · 28/05/2016 13:52

Hi everyone, I'm 16 weeks with DC2, in hospital on drip for 3rd time this pregnancy now, throwing up blood yesterday so throat is very painful, but getting tightenings in stomach.

Has anyone else had this from wretching? ( Was around 20 times at least yesterday)
They're going to do a scan to check on baby but I'm worrying it could be the start of contractions.

icklekid · 28/05/2016 14:53

Oh dainty how worrying. I get tightenings (braxton hicks possibly?) Quite a bit at 26 weeks. What medication are you on for sickness? At least being in hospital you will get best care if something does happen to get checked.

mrsmonkey im there with you in the lack of plans for the weekend as would inevitability have to cancel. Will also be focusing on exercise post birth- no rush though until fully recovered!

almond I'm about to start pregnancy pilates next week to strengthen my back. Physio also runs gym class at hospital once a week which helped last time so might try that soon too.

rae and almond i had to cancel a trip to sweden to see my Sister feb half term so totally understand the disappointment of missing out but will be worth it in the end

DaintyHippos · 28/05/2016 15:39

I hadn't thought of that, what point did you start getting braxton hicks? I didn't get them with my first and she was born at 32 weeks after barely feeling anything until I was 5cm, so think that's what's making me worry more.
I'm on cyclizine, metacloprimide and odansetron 3 times a day each, then reva something twice a day for stomach lining, but having antisickness through Canula at the moment until I can keep tablets down again.

RaeSkywalker · 28/05/2016 16:00

mrsmonkey you must be exhausted, I hope you manage to have a ready whilst your DD is napping.

Dainty you must be so worried, I hope the scan goes well. I don't get pains after wretching but do get cramps when constipated from the ondansetron. I also get little cramps (like period pains) when I'm dehydrated. Hope you're feeling a bit better now you're on a drip.

LucindaE · 28/05/2016 18:21

Welcome to DaisyHippos.Sorry you've been admitted. I do hope they give you some effective meds. As you're a veteran at coping with this, and checking for dehydration, no need for any tips from me. Yes, to blood from the throat; also, from the nose; I still get that when retching from migraines. I 'm not medically qualified, but I've read that it's only a cause of concern when the blood is brown or there's a lot of it,which might mean it is from the stomach. Might it be worth mentioning the cramps to the doctor as much as anything?
RubyReins How lovely to hear from you. We miss your wonderful humour on here. Baby is fifteen weeks already?
Alicekeach Glad you're feeling a bit better. I hope you're one of those expecting twins who get total relief from the second tri on. We've only had a couple expecting twins on here, but they do seem to recover well, and perhaps with a singleton pregnancy, might even have escaped this scourge altogether.
Almondbutter Sorry about cancelled plans. I so agree that I have no idea at all how people cope with long commutes, loo problems at work, unsympathetic managers and the rest.
I hope Chocoholic and Shopoholic are all right...
Rae A good idea; avoid Samuel Richardson, then - guaranteed to make you nod over the pages.Grin
amysmumm That is funny! Grin
Waves to mrsmonkey and everyone. Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

Morning all, and sorry for the long silence. Since the birth - a girl on 4 May, thanks for asking Ealli! - I've had no end of trouble with my episiotomy stitches and have hardly been able to sit down. I think things are now finally properly on the mend, thankfully. I saw Spandau's post about her difficulties and so sympathise. After months of sickness all you want is to be up and about again. Anyway, needless to say, the last few weeks have been heaven compared to HG! I am still enjoying the novelty of eating normally. You'll all get there too, and as Ealli says, the horrible memories of the sickness do fade remarkably quickly.
Exciting to see that Amys is so close to her due date! Will be thinking of you.
Ealli, interesting and exciting to hear you're considering TTC again. I think Meerka/SeaEagle has already said about B6 and cyclizine. Having been through 2 HG pregnancies and 1 with just bad MS I'd say that at least you know what to expect the second time. In my first HG pregnancy I kept waiting for the magical moment when I'd finally 'turn a corner' and I got increasingly desperate and depressed when it didn't happen. With my most recent pregnancy I was resigned to feeling/being sick all the way through and oddly that helped me mentally. In the end, weeks 32-40 weren't that bad. Good luck!
Nice to hear from Ruby! Hope all going well with you.
I see lots of people are enjoying chocolate milk! It was one of my staples and I still have a half used tub of Nesquik powder in the cupboard. I also got really into those frappe type drinks from Starbucks. And I went through a phase of making milkshakes with ice and sweetened almond milk when I couldn't face real dairy.
Thinking of you all, and big waves to everyone - Ickle, MrsMonkey, Rae, Rocket, Almond, Alice, Fresh, Dainty and anyone else I've neglected. And of course an extra wave as ever for heroic Lucinda.

RaeSkywalker · 29/05/2016 09:15

Hi Mother, sorry to hear about the problems with your stitches- I hope they heal quickly now. Glad you're enjoying food again. Have a piece of fudge cake for me! Cake I really need to buy some chocolate milkshake!

Had a horrible dream last night that I gave birth (to a boy, the baby is always a boy in my dreams) and the HG never went away. Woke up in a cold sweat!

Hope everyone is coping today.

LucindaE · 29/05/2016 09:43

MotherofPearl That sounds awful about your stitches. That is so unfair, after you suffered throughout. It stops proper enjoyment of the baby when you are in pain all the time. I had a horrible infection myself, and I do sympathize. Glad things are getting better. I didn't know about poor spandau suffering from that too. We haven't heard from her, but had assumed she had given birth. I hope she's on the mend, too. I hope you are really enjoying baby now, and glad that you are actually enjoying eating, and dong outrageous things like that...Smile
Raeskywalker That sounds a horrible dream Hugs. I am sure you won't be so unlucky! On all these threads, over several years, I could count the number of women who have had to wait for the Hyperemesis to clear up on the fingers of one hand. I had been one as well as infected stiches - trust me to be awkward - but for everyone, seemed to be a hormonal problem linked with breastfeeding, and very, very unusual. I was more or less OK again after a couple of weeks, though I always felt a bit nauseaus when breastfeeding (never dared mention that; of course, the medics would have immediately insisted on a psychological explanation years ago). SeaEagleFeather had that too.
Daisy Are you out yet? What meds have they given you, if so? Did they give reassurance over the cramps?
I hope everyone is OK on this warm spring day...Did I forget to post
icklekid Glad that you have made arrangements to be kind to yourself over the bank holiday...

icklekid · 29/05/2016 14:06

Congratulations motherofpearl sorry to hear about painful stitches, think I mentioned it before but I had same from episiotomy infection. A rubber ring type cushion made a big difference. Hope it's not too bad for too long.

daisy been thinking of you and cramps too. What did scan show?

rae better in a dream than reality! I dreamt ds was a boy last time and was obviously correct!

Thinking of those not heard of for a while hope everyone is positive and having a nice long weekend. I have realised I find it impossible not to do too much when ds is involved. I just love seeing him so happy- making dh take him out is best way to get a rest

SleepymrsE · 29/05/2016 14:42

Quick one here while DS naps. Hello to all the newbies, sorry to hear there are more ladies suffering the delights of HG. There are lots of knowledgable ladies on here to help with medicine info and lots more of us who can sympathise. At 21 weeks the meds are def working well and dare I say it, I've just managed a cup of decaf tea. Hopefully it'll stay down!

Busy weekend with DH working so on day 3 solo parenting. Tired is an understatement. Been into town today to pick up a few maternity bits. I'm so much bigger this time round which along with the fact baby is measuring slightly bigger than dates makes me think it'll be a big HG baby. So ironic considering I still weigh 4.5kg less than I did pre-pregnancy. Also bought first baby item on Friday. A new babygro for hospital. It'll get so many hand-me-downs from DS I thought it deserved at least one item of its own.

Hi to everyone else, including all new mummies.

eillenram · 29/05/2016 16:38

eillenram

i had a miscarriage 2 years ago, and only now i get a chance to become pregnant again but i think im having again a mc. my last day of period was april 19 and on may 22 i had a pregnancy test and its positive, i make 2 test though the line is faint but still visible. i made a test again 23 and same faint line.by those days i feel cramping and lower abdominal pain. on 28 in the morning i feel dizzy and got spotting. light brown. and in evening it became red. this morning its not a spotting anymore. its bleeding already. just like light period. and having serious cramps and lower abdominal pain. i went to doctor and go for ultrasound. she found a sack round forming but cannot determine if there is baby. because its still early to see. they make blood test and my hcg level is 24.something. and bleeding still continues and become more heavy. after 2 days i need to to blood test again and if hcg level becomes low then it is miscarriage. but if its become high maybe its ectopic.
but im still hoping as there are forums here i read which they also got heavy bleeding but still delivered normal..

may God help me coz i have been waiting for so long for a baby to come.
