I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
links.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Rae lunch just reappeared but it didn't hurt to be sick and there was no blood, which is progress from a couple of days back. Thanks for asking.
Psychologically it's a huge leap to even think 'I'd like to eat that'. Going to go wild and have some soup for supper.
What's lovely is after all the fluids seeing my belly sticking out more. Yesterday I looked well down on my pre preggo weight but today have chubbed up, even if it's only water.

RaeSkywalker · 26/05/2016 20:17

almond sorry that you've been sick but glad you're feeling a bit brighter. Horray for baby bumps!

Last night I said to DH that I was feeling really 'funny'... I then realised that the 'funny' feeling was hunger. I haven't felt hungry for the last 2 months! It was a bit of a shock to be honest Blush

Rocket82 · 26/05/2016 21:03

Wow this thread has moved fast today! Welcome almond and other newbies! Can't really add to other advice, except Ellison perhaps you could consider a test for H. Pylori, which seems to be connected to HG. I'm on my second HG pregnancy and wish I'd done this.

Went back on cyclizine today and feel better again. Glad I found out it is actually helping me! Won't try to come off again for another 2-3 weeks.

16 weeks and baby is moving a lot now. Also starting to get a small bump, which I guess is mainly my organs (and fat) being pushed upwards, but still!

SeaEagleFeather · 26/05/2016 21:44

oh glad you are feeling less awful rocket. cyclizine does more than people think, if they respond to it at all. Yay for babybumps :D

rae yes it makes sense that it's worse as a passanger. it's somethign to do with orientation and the middle ear, plus as a passanger / rear seat passanger you simply get the car's movements more magnified than the driver does, since all the movement starts with her ... If you see what I mean. It's why people in the back tend to get car sick more than the people in the front, and why the driver almost never does, I believe.

RaeSkywalker · 26/05/2016 21:48

Rocket I'm so pleased you're feeling better!

That's useful, thank you SeaEagle. I was wondering if I was imagining it! Think I'll be volunteering to drive in future then.

eallison88 · 26/05/2016 22:47

rae I always found driving preferable to being a passenger.

rocket what's h. Pylori?

Rocket82 · 26/05/2016 22:48

Thanks seaeagle and rae!

Out of interest, is there a side on which anyone feels less sick lying in bed? I remember advice later in my last pregnancy to lie on the left. But I feel so much sicker on my left than my right! I don't remember that from last time, and thinking about stomach anatomy you'd think it would be better on the left as the stomach goes down to the left so gravity could keep stuff in??

Rocket82 · 26/05/2016 22:50

H. Pylori is a bacterium that lives in the stomach and can cause ulcers. It can be cured with antibiotics. Research suggests it is much more common in women with HG than women without...

SeaEagleFeather · 27/05/2016 06:57

rocket lie on whichever side makes you feel better! there is some evidence apparently that in a very very few cases it's better for the baby ... but when you are sick, then do what works. Few studies have been done on women with HG other than regarding meds (and there are precious few good controlled tests of that, either). I suspect that a lot of what works for women with an easy preg, isnt quite the same as what works for people with a serious preg illness.

Mind you lying on your back gets pretty uncomfy later on!

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 07:12

Rocket I'm a definite 'side sleeper' but I know I move between left and right sides in the night. I'm trying to fall asleep on my left now but it doesn't always happen, I'm just doing what's most comfortable!

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 08:04

I'm too ill to go to work. Really miserable, just had a self-indulgent whine to DH about he can go into the office and use his brain while I have to sit about being useless. This is really unfair- he had a massive piece of work sprung on him yesterday and will probably be working for most of the weekend to get it done. I just feel so flipping useless!

eallison88 · 27/05/2016 09:10

rae i understand how frustrating it is not to be able to work. But you're not during there being useless; you're growing a tiny human being. That's bloody hard with easy peasy pregnancies!

almondbutter · 27/05/2016 09:28

Rae totally with you. I have, though it seems mad now, worked every day of pregnancy until this week, when I turned down my first project. When I say I worked It includes the days I sat with my head on the desk. Work is such a big part of my identity and self confidence that having that taken away too along with everything else is hard. Anything pleasant you can do today, however small?

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 09:43

Thanks guys. I love my job and miss doing something I'm actually good at every day.

You're right almond, it's a massive part of my identity. If I feel ok later I might have a poke round the charity shop in the village square for baby items just so I can say I've 'done something', but I think in reality I'm going to be sleeping a lot until DH gets home. I've got a baby blanket I could start making but I don't have the energy for it. So annoying!

almondbutter · 27/05/2016 09:50

Could you paint your toenails? I always feel cheered if I look down at nice feet in shower, though at the moment I have to sit in the shower...

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 09:57

That is a brilliant idea almond! They're bare at the moment, a bit of colour would definitely cheer me up.

I know what you mean about showering, I'm still sitting down in there fairly regularly, although it's not as often now. At the worst DH had to sit on the bathroom floor whilst I showered sitting down so that he could haul me out if I fainted. So glamorous! Hopefully you'll be back to standing soon now you've got some medication. How are you feeling today?

almondbutter · 27/05/2016 14:10

OK thanks Rae. Didn't have a great night and was up a few times, but have eaten a bit today and kept it down.

I've been having a bathroom replaced the last fortnight (we have two beds, two baths) and I am thrilled it's nearly, nearly done. For obvious reasons I haven't enjoyed the last couple of weeks of sharing a bathroom with DH, builders etc. There's been a LOT of puking in the kitchen sink when bathroom has been occupied.

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 14:54

Pleased that you've managed to keep something down today!

There seems to be a theme on this thread for people having building works done whilst dealing with HG. You must be desperate you have your space back again! We're hopefully having our ensuite (finally) finished in the next few weeks, it would've been handy to have when I was at my absoloute worst a month or so ago.

icklekid · 27/05/2016 16:04

Oh rae really really there with you. I did far too much at work this week and since wed afternoon have been so ill 😞 topped with ds waking stupidly early I was in tears this morning. I loved being at work and enjoyed it so much but its been far to much. But I get it, I really do.

almond hope that you get your bathroom back asap we've got a few weeks until our extension is finished and will be so so lovely to have house back and dust free!

rocket I have to roll over because of pain in hips so I sleep on both sides and sometimes sat up because feel so sick! Probably partly why not getting much sleep!

Sorry to anyone I've missed- mil has taken ds out so going to lie down!

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 16:13

ickle I'm really sorry you're suffering too. It's so hard to know where the 'overdoing it' line is until it's too late! Hope that you get a decent rest whilst your MIL takes your DS out.

LucindaE · 27/05/2016 20:00

Goodness, you brave lot, having building work done. almondbutter A good idea about toenails. That does make a difference to morale! Amazing you managed to go in to work until this week.
Rocket I must remember that about H Pylori.
ickliid Sorry you feel bad.
Rae and others. I remember I read 'War and Peace'. To this day, it makes me feel ill to think of the book!
Waves to lovely SeaEagleFeather and everyone. I hope everyone is managing to keep hydrated in this warmer weather. Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

Evening all!!! I've been lurking but not so much posting, it seems like every time I come online to do so I either write a long thread which invariably disappears or Amy jumps on me to do something with her... she's hankering at my heels now to read a book :S 1 week and 6 days to due date.... eeeeekkkkkk!!! Madrigal congrats!!! hope Spandau is ok as we haven't heard anything! I'll keep as updated as I can, I've been so busy since breaking up from work! Keep going everyone!! not long now! :)

amysmummy12345 · 27/05/2016 20:22

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 20:50

Haha Lucinda, maybe I should read The Iliad or something. I'm normally a total bookworm but am struggling to focus at the moment. I think I'm going to try read the baby Jane Austen when stuck doing night feeds- I'm not trying to create a geviys baby, just thinking that reading aloud might help me to stay awake!

amys not long for you to go at all now, I'll be thinking of you!

Thinking of Spandau- hope you're ok Flowers

RaeSkywalker · 27/05/2016 20:50

^ that should be "genius baby". Oh, the irony Grin
