i think anything is possible, even if unlikely, when it comes to conception !

Spidermama · 11/01/2007 14:01

So it's very unlikely isn't it? Given that I'm pretty sure I ovulate 2-3 weeks after my period because that's when I get ov pains.

unlikely yes........esp if you are regular and know your cycle and your body...but stranger things have happened...but unlikely IMHO

Spidermama · 11/01/2007 14:05

Thanks Lulu. Sorry to bang on but does anyone know ... is it more likely to get pregnant, if you're going to, at the begining or the end of your period?

well , if you have a 28 day cycle you are equally at 'risk', i think, but if not, i am not so sure...the beginning of the period might be closer to the ovulation, but the egg only hangs around 24 - 48 hours, so also depends on when you had sex too

i also might be talking bolleaux

lulumama · 11/01/2007 14:10

day 1 of the cycle is the first day of the period

day 14 tends to be ovulation in a 28 day cycle

days 11 - 15, poss 16 i think tend to be the fertile days, taking into account how long sperm can live

tortoise · 11/01/2007 14:11

I got pregnant twice right at the end of a period.

lulumama · 11/01/2007 14:12

see, bolleaux , don;t listen to me !!

Spidermama · 11/01/2007 17:38

Tortoise I think my last two pregnancies occured at the very end of periods when I thought I was safe.

Hmm, so the begining of the period really should be safe.

I don't get on with any sort of contraception so I'm trying to work out how to avoid getting pregnant natually.

Stop laughing over there.

If you have longish periods (mine usually last about a week) then I suppose it is possible to conceive at the end of them (particularly as sperm can live for up to 5 days iirc), but if you are generally regular I can't really imagine it being possible at the beginning of a period.

Spidermama · 11/01/2007 18:02

That's what we thought FIT.
PHEW!

I got pg 2 days before AF due, am 38+ and busting at seams so I couldn't say anymore. Before I would have said no.

motherinferior · 11/01/2007 18:05

I've been known to ovulate during a period. And I have a very regular cycle.

Well, OK, I have a very regular cycle - with painful ovulation and all - but did conceive DD1 without particularly meaning to . But DD1 is nice.

What sunny, what? I'm not. I was just wondering, just in case. My new years resolution is to not get pregnant.
