Early Ultrasound - So Scared

I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago and I have irregular periods. The doctor calculated how far gone I was since my last period (11wks ago). I knew I wouldn't have been this far along. But, I assumed maybe I was 8-9 weeks.

I was referred to have an ultrasound yesterday, where they I said I looked between 4-5 weeks. The scan shows no baby just a sac and a cyst on the left side. Not much was explained to me when I was there but I was taken to the early pregnancy area and had 4 tubes of blood taken.

I am going back for more blood on Wednesday but I am now terrified!!

What is happening? Is this normal? This is my first pregnancy.

I was also scanned at 4/5 weeks and they too couldn't find a yolk sac within the sac. I do think it is too early at this stage. Your blood levels will be able to tell if your pregnancy is growing. Please try not to worry. You really cant tell if a pregnancy is viable until the 12 week scan which is why you are usually not touched until then. This early stage is just a waiting game unfortunately. Try and keep yourself calm and busy and you will know more before you know it.

I have irregular periods and couldn't actually remember when my last one was I recently found out I am pregnant and was sent for an early scan. I was expecting I was around 7ish weeks. They scanned and only saw a sac and pole (I think!) they said I was about 5 weeks and asked me to go back in two weeks.

I was terrified.

Went back two weeks later and there was a little heart beat and was 7+5.

Will you be scanned again? Or are they doing the blood tests instead?

Thank you. This makes me feel much better! I saw no pole just the sac.

I am going for second lot of blood tests tomorrow. No mention of a second scan yet.

If your periods are very irregular then you may well have ovulated much later. I hope this is the case x

I had this with my first pregnancy - DS is perfect. I ovulate irregularly and put it down to that. Three weeks later, we saw a little heartbeat :)
Did they explain what they were taking your blood for?

They said they were doing two tests over 48 hours to check the hcg level is still increasing. I don't know if this sounds like good or bad news to be honest.

The waiting is awful!

I payed privatly for a reassurance scan, at 6 weeks, hot to the scan and had to have an internal scan, couldn't see anything, so was told I was less than I thought, prob about 4 weeks. I had the doctors the next day and she sent me straight to the EPU for a blood test, I then had a repeat blood test 48 hours later at the same time, to check if the hormone level was rising correctly, was sent home and received a phone call 3 hours later from the EPU doctor telling me it had rose and had booked me in for a early scan 4 days later, as ur hcg should rouldhly double every day I think it is, so had the scan and there was my little peanut, heartbeat and all, so try not to worry, u may just be much earlier than u thought, I have a 35 day cycle and ovulate later than if was a 28 day, have been found to have polysistic ovaries, which is why I have a longer cycle, Try to relax and think positive, hope all goes ok
