Prophylactic anti biotics?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant, I have recurring uti's and kidney infections and had a consultant appointment today, my kidney infections get so bad that I have to be admitted to hospital each time and my consultant said there's a chance of premature labour, she's recommended and prescribed me prophylactic anti biotics to take all through pregnancy in a lowish dose. Surely it can't be good for the baby??

The consultant - a medical school trained doctor with many years experience - has weighed up the benefits and risks and has decided that this is the best thing for you and the baby. Do you know more than them? NO.

What would you rather, not take them and risk a very poorly preemie baby?

I took antibiotics from around 30 weeks on due to recurring UTIs - no damage to my daughter (now 5), and I had her by ELCS (unrelated to the UTIs) at 39 weeks. Taking antibiotics was certainly better for us then recurring kidney issues which kept hospitalising me.

I was on prophylactic antibiotics from 25 weeks with pregnancy 2 and from 14 weeks with pregnancy 3. Came close to having to deliver dd (preg 2) at 25 weeks to save my own life with a uti, after that I reckoned anything that would stop the same thing happening again could only be good.

I picked them up today and will be taking them, I just wondered if he/she will build up some tolerance, I didn't say I would rather a poorly baby, I wanted some reassuring stories, which luckily I did get too.

She can't build up "tolerance" to an antibiotic. Repeated kidney infections severe enough to hospitalise you are far more dangerous to her than regular antibiotics.
