Stomach cramps and spotting at 6 weeks

Hello,

I'm a bit worried so hoping that someone might be able to reassure me...

I've been having stomach cramps for the past few weeks (which I realise are normal), but last night had a bit of (old, not red) blood when I went to the loo. This has continued all day at a low level.

We were actually away with friends for the weekend who don't know, so phoned my doctors on the drive home this morning who said that this seemed normal - but that if it was (at the worse case scenario) a miscarriage, then there's nothing I can do really anyway.

I have an appointment with my GP this Friday so hopefully he'll have some more to add. Any advice / reassurance would be great though!

Thank you x

It's hopefully nothing, but your doctor should refer you for a scan at the hospital to find out for sure. Just saying 'there's nothing that can be done anyway' is not good enough. You need reassurance that all is ok or advice on how to manage if not. You could see if any local hospitals have an early pregnancy unit where you can self-refer or walk-in, or go to out-of- hours gp for appt.

Ah ok, thank you. I'll look into that. Seems to have stopped now fortunately anyway...

Hello, little update...

So I was referred to the early pregnancy clinic for a scan this morning - and it't possible good / possible bad news.

There is a foetus with a heartbeat - but the gestational sac looks very irregular which could be an indication of a partial molar pregnancy. Or it could just be a previous bleed making it look irregular. I have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan to see how / if things are progressing, whether the foetus is growing, but have been warned that it may well lead to a miscarriage within that time.

Obviously if it's good news in 2 weeks then great! If not, then that will lead down an entirely different path as the pregnancy is not viable.

I'm not really sure how to feel now. I feel like i'm in limbo - I can't be excited about it anymore until I know whether everything is ok or not. And goodness how I am going to function at work!

Any advice would be appreciated x

I'm sorry you're stuck in limbo, that's really difficult. No advice as there's really nothing to do except don't expect too much from yourself, you're in a rubbish position so allowed to be down or distracted by it. I'm glad you're under the early pregnancy unit care so will get the best care whatever happens. hope it all goes well x
