Secur, maybe you're right. I did go swimming quite a lot a few months back and enjoyed it then, only took dd then and there is no way I could chase her around there now. She won't stay still! Maybe I will get dh to watch her and go on Sat. Y'know it almost didn't occur to me to not take dd! Imagine going somewhere on my own!
And sorry to be enjoying our lovely winter too much

karen01 · 14/06/2004 17:19

I have a quick question - Even though I had a really good undisturbed sleep last night, I am still really tired. I went back to sleep at about 10.30ish and woke up about 12.45, I didn't want to get up and could quite gladdly go back to sleep now as I just feel so drained and eyes really heavy.

DH thinks this could be calm before the storm, has anyone else expereinced this in past pg just before labour.

I really am clutching at straws at the mo as I know if babs isn't here by Due date it is another section so that DH can help and be here. I really don't want one but really want him here for birth and week or so afterwards. I am going to have to try and have a chat to DB

sorry about moan

Skara · 14/06/2004 17:29

one hand, scuse typing...

Karen that's how I felt on the friday - waters broke that night. I was sooo tired I thought I was going to expire! Fingers crossed for you

Gomez · 14/06/2004 17:31

Karen - sorry can't help with your question as I have never been in labour either. Could be thou. Hey it can be if you want it to be....

Thought we were away last night but no after about 6 hours (yes 6 bloody hours) all stopped. Although to be fair although the contraction/tightenings were regular they were not particularly sore so I wasn't 100% convinced they were the real McCoy - unlike DH who was gutted when they stopped.

Anyway today at clinic I have managed to reach the lofty dimensions of 1cm dilated AND I have had a bit of a show AND I was getting mild contractions on the machine thingy so feeling quite hopeful that I might manage to pop before Monday. Got a sweep (which was not at all sore) from the registrar and managed to negogiate another wee internal on Monday to see if I have progressed any before the section and if so they MIGHT give me another couple of days. So all in all quite chuffed! And excited!

Secur swimming sounds bliss to be honest - but I would need to clear the pool before I set foot out of the changing rooms!

Take care all

monkeygirl · 14/06/2004 17:39

Karen - don't really know the answer but I have been feeling the same for a while. I think that it might seem like an undisturbed night but you might not know if you are just being woken up for a few seconds because of kicks, contractions (!), the heat, noises etc and so it may be a long but bad quality sleep you're getting iyswim. Are you still getting contractions? Mine have stopped completely now .

Secur - you did inspire me today so, although I drove dd to nursery I also did some jobs like filling up the car, giving it a bit of a clean and even picking up a few things from the supermarket. I feel better than I have done for a few days and may even walk to nursery later - but then again...

Cathncait - I envy you a mild winter, I just cannot stand the heat, although it is better here today.

Right tomorrow is my due date and I am determined to be one of those 5% to deliver then so if you have any labour vibes left, send them on.

No Gomez yet - is this good news?? And Scampadoodle has been missing for ages. Could it be...??

monkeygirl · 14/06/2004 17:41

Oh Gomez - our posts crossed! Still your news doesn't sound too bad - you must be in this fabled pre-labour period as well so fingers crossed for you.

My mw has threatened to give me a sweep, I think. Not sure if I like the idea though yet.

Gomez · 14/06/2004 17:46

Monkeygirl - the sweep really didn't hurt at all this morning. I actually commented to the Dr and he said it was because I was ready i.e. my cervix was open but it can be very painful if given when your cervix is not starting to do the job itself. Apparently this is more common when sweeps are given as 'routine' at due date appointments.

Cheers

I cracked, I bought the kids SIX computer game CDs from Amazon just now. I only got 3 hrs sleep last night (kids and DH were all awake on-off due to the heat) and have felt knacked all day, struggling to mediate and entertain... 4yo is bored with cbbees... I have been meaning to buy him some games, but I didn't think it would be 6 CDs. Now feel like a spendthrift. Hope is that he will be able to self-entertain on at least 2 of them -- but there goes my "I don't have to spend anything for the new baby" boast....

Really sorry about your worries, Karen. My labours didn't start with a tired phase, sorry to say.

I don't have any more appts with midwife -- I simply forgot to make one! Am quietly thinking this is a good way to make sure I don't get pressured into sweep, induction, anything I'd rather avoid. It puts me in charge, more than I would be otherwise. Am mulling over how late I feel going... I don't want to be induced just for making it to 42 weeks, but I think maybe 43 weeks sounds too risky.

Must dash, see what damage children are wreaking in the garden.

Cavy · 14/06/2004 20:24

They're attempting to turn the contents of the paddling pool into chocolate soup (only using mud instead of chocolate).
Oh well, it all washes and they're out of my hair!

scampadoodle · 14/06/2004 23:41

Hello, hello - I'm back! Sorry, it's just that a)I'm lazy & just want to sleep or lie around reading crap books all day & b)our home PC is sooo slow compared to the internet at work that I can hardly bear to use it...

Well, I was due on Sunday & nowt yet. Have had quite a lot of opaque (but clean) discharge, back pains, pooing a lot (today)(sorry!), & at 2am today woke up with period pains but they went away. So don't know really! Need to have it before monday as dh has booked 2 weeks holiday & it's a real waste if I haven't dropped... However, want to avoid Sunday 'cos of the match. May try Thai food & sex (you can guess which one I'll find more enjoyable) tomorrow as that's what worked last time.

Congratulations Skara! I can't believe only one of us has produced.

monkeygirl · 15/06/2004 00:02

Cavy - I'm sure those CDs will be worth every penny and then some when DB comes out, so don't feel guilty. Me and DH bought some books etc and they were for us - how selfish is that considering we don't have any spare money, but then you gotta live...

Scampadoodle - I had such high hopes for you - hope you are not suffering too much. Skara I am not discounting your sterling effort but do you realise we are now nearly a third through the month and still only one baby and none actually born in June??

Those July ladies are going to put us to shame soon!

Dh has insisted on going out and buying me some very spicy chicken to eat. I think he was hoping not to have to work on election night tomorrow (he's a journalist) and I've let him down. I think we are both now worried that db is going to wait for England v France on Sunday now at least.

Ooh here's my food.

Good luck again tonight ladies, whatever you are up to...

karen01 · 15/06/2004 01:12

Still feeling really tired but think may try sex again tonight and see if it kick starts me.
MG- I haven't had anymore contractions, but my back is killing me.
I have been sat down stairs watching telly on my Reebok ball untill DD wanted ago. She is off school tommorrow so DH has promised to take her ice skating. So I suppose DB might decide to upset big sister and decide to make an appearance. I am sure she will find new DB more exciting . I can dream.

Off for some pineapple and then a soak in the bath.

monkeygirl · 15/06/2004 02:08

Ok ladies, I think I am finally in labour!! I've been having contractions 5-10 mins apart for nearly 2 hours and they are so fing painful. So if this isn't it I will be majorly ped off. I'm trying to distract myself, might take a bath and just swear a lot.

Wish me luck, if anyone is around!

deeno · 15/06/2004 02:12

Just popped into your thread. Oooooh, good luck monkey girl, will keep everything crossed for you.

monkeygirl · 15/06/2004 02:18

Thank you! I can't believe how painful it is already and it's only early stages yet.

Never again!

littlerach · 15/06/2004 11:01

Any news mG?

Toothache · 15/06/2004 11:02

MG! MG!! She had better get her DH to get organised and post us an update ASAP, hmph!

Poor Gomez, you must be really fed up with waiting and people threatening to pass you by when you had the first due date and... SPD, isn't it?

Secur: you may be right. But I am easily pressured (although, admittedly, MW is very hands off in her attitude). It's just so nice to have the freedom to not be bothered, prodded, queried, etc. I would rush off if I suddenly had a single symptom, but despite the heat I don't even have ordinary swelling (or headaches, or sweatiness, or anything.) I get a bit tired, esp. walking up hills and if tea gets delayed. That's the worst of it.

Last night I also splashed out £40 on new sheets and pillowcases (from La Redoute, no less) for the kids; not absolutely essential, but DD will be moving from the cot into a new bed in say... 3 months? Although we don't actually have a mattress for the new bed, yet, LOL. I know this is a nesting thing, I just want to get any jobs out of the way I can.

I suppose I'm the only one on thread who genuinely wants to make it to at least 41 weeks? Tomorrow is my due date. Although I had a nasty leg cramp last night. Must need to eat bananas at bedtime or something.

go MG go. we need that June baby labour vibes to get us all going!

woke at 5am today feeling decidedly wierd - shaky nauseous & not quite right
had a few twinges but nothing to get excited about. Pelvis is killin gme now so maybe it was baby getting itself in position.

Fingers crossed!
have just stripped all the beds & am doing a huge pile of washing (most unusual for me!) got the waterproof sheet out just incase!

here's hoping something kicks into action over the weekend - I'm fed up with people asking how long i've got now!
