I'm 5 months pregnant and have been feeling really ropey so far
Can I use a spray tan? Could do with a wee boost right now......!

This has been asked quite a lot lately and the general consensus is no to spray tanning because of the risk of possibly inhaling of the fumes. NHS guidance is to not spray tan as well. Self tanning with a cream/foam and a mit is fine though.

I would spray tan and do for customers when pregnant I've never heard of any adverse effects and am insured to do so.

If you are worried about inhaling it you could wear a mask and self tan your face or hold your breath when they come to do your face.

It's not just about inhaling it whilst spraying the face, it's more so got to do with the ventilation in the room and being exposed to vapours over however long it takes to spray the whole body. NHS advise avoiding spray tans as it's not known how harmful it is to the baby if by chance the fumes are inhaled. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

This is the first I've heard about spray tanning being a no no in pregnancy. During my training there was a section on spray tanning during pregnancy and the only contra indication was that due to hormones the tan colour can change or the skin could react, so a patch test 24 hours before is necessary.

I'm going to head to the NHS site now and read up, if that is the case, it is worrying that this wasn't covered in any of the training I've had.
