May sound like silly question, but if you had a normal pregnancy first time round can you have an incompetent cervix second time? Friend v worried she's got one even though first pregnancy went fine, long story why she thinks it's different this time but don't know how to reassure her. Thank you!

Yes you can... My SIL is in a hospital in Johannesberg ATM. They have put a stitch in her cervix now and are talking about replacing some fluid...poor girl. She has just been told she is only 22 weeks too, not 25 as she thought. We are all crossing our fingers for her...

Oh, hot and bothered, I'm so sorry for your SIL. I'll be thinking of her. And was her first pregnancy normal? Do you know what the difference was between the two? Sorry to ask but my friend is so worried.

Sorry albertson - just spotted your message. Yes - her first was completely normal - she sailed through with absolutely no problems. I was quite jealous infact because she didn't even feel sick!
She has no idea why this is different - she says she felt the same ie really well and it was at a routine appointment that they spotted it. I think she said she felt a bit 'loose' down below so they checked. Good thing they did....
Hope your friend is OKand it all turns out well. Will post if there is any further news. HTH
