Another post ! You can tell I'm new to this !!

As per my cat thread, found out yesterday that I'm pregnant (yay!) and now working through making the right changes.

I would usually have sushi 2-3 x pw for my lunch (office) from Abokado mostly.

Anyone here still eating sushi / found guidelines for the safety of high street sushi?

Cheers :)

I have had sushi a few times from wasabi and yo sushi and now 28 weeks. its personal choice but I kind of trusted the fact that its a chain and stick to the rules when it comes to quality and temp they keep their fish. I too am a long time sushi eater with never a issue before.

I'm eating it from waitrose

Thanks guys - I really don't want to stop eating it as love it and find it really filling.

Have eaten other healthy salads from Crussh and M&S the last couple of days at work and then have eaten so much from the snack cupboard as they just don't fill me up the same as sushi !

You are ok to have it as long as it's been frozen at some point (as that kills the bug that is a worry), or if its not raw. Supermarket sushi will have been frozen at some point so is fine. Different restaurants do things differently. Yo Sushi don't freeze their raw salmon so I wouldn't have that, but other restaurants might.

we have an independent sushi place here and they have frozen salmon especially for pregnant people and can advise on what else is frozen
I'm sure if you ask they will advise but I've been eating sushi from there!

I ate loads when pg with DS... I lived overseas with a large expat Japanese community around me and everyone ate it! Back in the UK I have a Groupon voucher for a local sushi restaurant bought before my bfp Hmm I'm looking forward to it!

Just ask them? I doubt you're the first pregnant woman who is a regular customer.

But otherwise, the general advice is to only eat raw fish (and cured meats for that matter) which have been frozen.

All fish used for sushi has to be frozen due to EU regulations. Only exception is certain farmed salmon.

Thanks all ! Much appreciated. I asked the heavily pregnant lady who works at my local abokado - she didn't know and hates sushi herself!
