Blood pressure 90/40

Had a midwife appointment yesterday and she was shocked that my blood pressure was so low at 90/40 but didn't seem too concerned. Since then my DM and MIL (nurse) have voiced their concerns so have me worried.

Anyone else had such low blood pressure?

I did in my first pregnancy. I think it's quite common to have low blood pressure in early pregnancy just make sure you don't start feeling too dizzy.

Mine was always 80/50 in pregnancy.

I had a few problems in my second trimester due to feeling faint if I hadn't eaten or there was a change in temperature - like going from outside in the cold into a hot shop - but as it caused no big problems, it was just a low bp and nowt else.

Low blood pressure is pretty normal in pregnancy and if your midwife wasn't worried I wouldn't be. Mine was around 100/60 but fell to 80/40 a few times. I felt a bit light headed but adding salt to my diet and ensuring I was hydrated and eating regularly I was fine.

I got pretty close at times, although my normal blood pressure isn't that much higher. I am typically somewhere in the 110/60 range which I understand to be the low end of normal. My DM also has low but not dangerously low blood pressure.

I was never told to be concerned about similar results I got while pregnant. In fact I usually get compliments on my blood pressure from medical types.

My BP was never recorded over 80 systolic during pregnancy I just learnt not to stand still for long, get up quickly or get too hot, keep hydrated and eat salty food. I had an elective and the anaesthetist gave me an infusion of I think epinephrine to raise my BP before the epidural which would drop it! I still have a low BP and suffer but no one is bothered

Mine was similar when pregnant, but was never a cause for concern.

I have low bp normally - around 98/60.

Mine was low, same as other people, but I got to 28 weeks and it got to 100/60 and I just felt so much better! Not as tired, not as fragile. I am on my third and it has taken the longest to feel better this time- all bp related. Drink water!!! Lots and lots!!

Mine was v low in all 3 of my pregnancies and is still on the low side of normal now. Was told to drink more to increase my blood volume. Did feel faint a lot in the 3rd trimester and kept seeing glittery things in my peripheral vision but no one ever seemed overly concerned!

Mine is low in pregnancy (though not quite that low). If you're normally very fit and active a low bp is ok, but if you are dizzy/lightheaded/dehydrated you need to see a GP. Drink lots and make sure you're eating enough. Fwiw, my low bp was making me dizzy in the early weeks, but my body seems to have adapted to it by week 20.

Yes - always very low too. And it usually is.

I eat proper sea salt and it helps.

Blood pressure is often lower in pregnancy, other medical professionals always think it is abnormally low. Drink plenty of fluids and eat frequently.

When my spinal was given for the emcs both times round, my already low bp fell through the floor and I passed out first time round. So worth bearing in mind should you need an epidural or spinal.

My normal bp is 90/60 and my heartrate around 50.

Mine is normally around 100-110/60 and used to somewhat perturb the nurses doing pill checks. Since I've been pregnant it's been 90-100/50-60 and none of the midwives have been the slightest bit fussed so I assume it's normal to be a bit low in pregnancy.
To keep mine up I need to stay well hydrated and add some salt to my diet.

I am still suffering. Midwife didnt seem concerned as better low than high i was told. Just told to drink water, have salt and make sure i eat regularly. Also told to rest more and not do too much. Im bad first thing so have cereal bars by the bed which i get up.
