Please help urgent. does anyone have experience of bleeding @ 6wks and a blood clot shown at scan?

My sil is 6 wks and has had some red bleeding and cramps. At a scan today it showed a blood clot which hasn't affected the sac yet but might. Does anyone know if this means that she will def. miscarry. She's just rang and is v. distressed.

ok my sister had a blood clot at her 6week scan and the docotors said to leave it and see if it comes away, and at 7weeks she started bleeding, the doctor came out in the middle of the night to find she couldn't get off the toilet, there was so much blood. Early next morning an ambulance took her to hospital to have an emergency scan and the baby was still there a few weeks later and a smaller bleed happened, i'm happy to say that that baby is now my 7yr old nephew

Thanks guys. Some positive news then. I think they found a heartbeat at the scan but I don't know how threatening the clot is. The sonographer said it didn't look good and she has an appt. to go for a 2nd scan next wk.

Bump - anyone else know?

I had this with this pregnancy (Im now 34 weeks!) They called it a heamatoma, I had bleeding and cramping, mainly brown bleeding though, although I did have a few occasions from week 6 to 16 where i had red heavy bleeds.

Im pleased to tell you though, by my 20 scan it had completely sorted itself out and expecting our baby boy within the next few weeks!

Fingers crossed for your SIL. They told me back then there was a small chance it would end in mc but the last case she had seen was ten years ago, they usually clear up by themselves x x

Amother positive story for you......my friend had this. Her bleeding got so bad she woke up the night thinking she had wet herself. She is now proud mum of an 8 week old. It was very traumatic at the time though. Hope it all works out.

I had it with this pregnancy they found it at 7 weeks (am 20 +4 now), it's called a subchoronic hemorrhage (heamatoma). It can affect the baby depending on the size and location.
By 12 weeks mine had corrected itself.

Mine was in no danger of the baby because it was on the opposite side of the baby, but some that are closer to the baby can be harmful.

Does you sil know her rh status? If she's negative she may need to get rhogam shots.

The best this she can do is stay off her feet as much as possible. A hemorrhage will self correct, but only with rest. My doctor said, no sex, no heavy lifting, stay off your feet as much as possible.

Odd are it is fine, because it is fairly common, but I know it's scary to think that there is something there that shouldn't be.
