Hi all.
I'm really worried. I'm 6 weeks into my first pregnancy and I'm in a lot of pain with my back and neck. It alternates between my back and neck but has been consistently there for a few days now. I haven't had pain like this since a pulled my back. Moving around isn't easy and I can't get comfy sitting or laying down. I know back and neck pain is common in early pregnancy but I'm concerned that it shouldn't be this bad.

Does this seem normal? Any thoughts are highly appreciated

Back pain for me was a sign of miscarriage. I would advise you to see a doctor. Congratulations!

It is lower back pain and neck pain. Thanks. I think I'll go to doctors to put my mind at rest. I have had muscle problems before but it was a while ago. I'll ring doctors first thing probably

I've had a fair bit of back pain and at 15 weeks everything is going fine. I'm considering buying a nursing chair already because I'm so uncomfortable on the sofa! And on any other seat, come to that.

Your body is full of hormones and they do strange things to your muscles. No harm in going to your doctor, but I wouldn't spend the night worrying about miscarriage. Hope it eases for you soon OP.

Same as poison I've had a fair bit since around 5 weeks, am 16 weeks now. Stuff I've read suggest it's hormones relaxing your ligaments. I think they've relaxed enough now thanks! Smile. I don't know about "normal" but you're definitely not alone...hope you're feeling a bit better today.

No back pain but I did have terrible neck pain which coincided with my terrible morning sickness. Once that got better, so did my neck.

I had absolutely horrendous back pain when I was very early into my first pregnancy. I was off work laid up for a week. I had no issues with the pregnancy after that (my back remained intact until dd got to about 15months and I popped a disc out lifting her).
So not always something to worry about but certainly worth getting checked at the GP if you are worried

I had horrid back pain for most of my first & second trimester. I'm now 39 weeks. My back would constantly ache. My neck still hurts now and physio said its because I am producing large amounts of relaxing hormones. I've also had very bad carpal tunnel. Always worth getting checked with gp but from my experience back ache and neck pain has just been an annoying pregnancy sympton. Hope it passes for you quickly as I know how annoying this can be
