Newborn in travelcot, mattress advice

My first born was in a moses basket until 7 weeks then we put him in a travel cot (with newborn bassinet) until he was about 6 months old.
Im planning on doing the same again this time as new baby will be going into DSs room when old enough in a cotbed and theres not enough room in our bedroom for anything larger than the travel cot.

Will baby be okay on the mattress in the travel cot (DS was fine, in the beginning I put a fleecy blanket under him) or do I need to buy an 'extra' mattress for it?
Its a graco contour, so its a pretty good mattress I think already.

Can't he just sleep in the Moses basket 6 months? They are quiet big for a 7 week old to outgrow and are supposed to last until they can sit and pull themselves up
