First babies - how soon after losing plug did your labour start?

Am 38+6 (first baby) today and woke up this morning to a bloody show. I had some false labour pains on Saturday night which died away to nothing yesterday but now I'm on the alert for any possible sign of real labour!

Lots of googling has told me that in first pregnancies, losing the plug doesn't necessarily mean labour is imminent, but just interested in people's experiences - for your first baby, how soon after the show did you go into labour?

This is probably not what you want to hear but I lost my plug at around 38 weeks and went into labour at 10 days overdue.

rosieliveson1 · 04/04/2016 11:07

I had a sweep on the Wednesday, another on the Saturday and DD was born on the Sunday 11 days overdue.
I was losing plug from the Thursday until she was born.

First pregnancy labour started about 10hours after losing plug.
Second was about 3hours

MyBreadIsEggy · 04/04/2016 14:08

I lost mine on the Saturday morning (bloody gunk on toilet paper), waters broke Sunday night. Labour didn't start, so was induced Tuesday morning and DD arrived that lunchtime Smile

Half hour.

CaptainCallisto · 04/04/2016 15:34

With both of mine I'd already been in labour about 36 hours before I lost my plug. With DS2 the poor midwife ended up covered in mucus goop because it came out while she was examining me. Whoops! Grin

WhingyNinja · 04/04/2016 15:37

Around 2 weeks! I was losing my hind waters for 5 days before DD was born too!

OliveOi · 04/04/2016 19:31

Thanks all for the responses, looks like generally a couple of days after is common but could also be a couple of weeks, argh!

Nothing exciting to report here, got some light period style cramps but been having those on & off for the last couple of weeks.

Fingers crossed I won't be waiting too much longer, well & truly bored of pregnancy now, absolutely dying to be able to move around without feeling like a beached whale - and eager to meet my little girl obviously Grin

FloatyFlo · 04/04/2016 19:45

Buckinbronco · 04/04/2016 19:46

I lost it intact (ie not a show it just dropped out in the bath) and labour started about 3 hours later

Imnotaslimjim · 04/04/2016 19:46

Lost my plug in bits over 3 days before going into labour. Lost a large amount in one go about an hour before I delivered

Elfontheedge · 04/04/2016 19:47

A few hours I think. I lost it in the night whilst asleep and woke up at 2:30am with first contractions. DD born 16 hours later.

Dixiechick17 · 04/04/2016 20:33

I had a bloody show, but didn't see a plug, just lots of blood speckled stuff, that was in the morning and on off for the rest of the day, period pains started 11.30 that night, Waters started to go at 1.20am, DD arrived at 7.17am the following day.

suspiciousofgoldfish · 04/04/2016 21:01

Next day for me..... DH took me on a ridiculously long walk and it came out in the woods Confused.

One of my finer moments. Went into labour next afternoon.

It's very exciting first time round, good luck!Smile

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 04/04/2016 21:05

I lost mine after my sweep. DD was here 17 hours later, but I was already having contractions and 4cm dilated when the midwife came to do the sweep anyway.
