Is this normal? My blood tests are negative for anaemia but everyone keeps asking me if I have it as v pale ad tired. The blood tests are a month old, could I have developed it since? I'm just so tired, both physically and sleep wise. I call fall asleep at almost any minute of the day!

I hate to tell you this, but I felt like this for nearly every week of each of my pregnancies. Maybe there were a few weeks when I felt OK (say for about 6 weeks in the 20s weeks period) but other than that, I could have slept all day every day. It is very normal, unfortunately.

I would try a gentle iron supplement like Spatone or Floradix to see if it helps. Your iron levels can drop quite quickly in pg so its possible that that is what has happened. To be honest though, its possible to miss out entirely on the supposed 2nd trimester vigour. Or it may turn up next week. Listen to your body, sleep as much as you need to, and try a little light exercise and fresh air, it may also help.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/01/2007 18:10

Oh yes I had Floradix and iron and all that too. I can't say it made any difference, but perhaps I would have felt worse without it.

lulumama · 05/01/2007 18:11

was just about to recommend spatone and exactly what mary has said...!

MKG · 05/01/2007 18:11

Welcome to my world! At 20 weeks I've been tired everyday. I wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and need a nap. If I didn't have ds to take care of I could sleep all day. I did sleep through most of my pregnancy with him.

Biglips · 05/01/2007 18:13

bumper - i was like this from day one of my pg towards the end as your body is working overtime to grow the baby so yes its normal! so have much sleep as you can

TinsellyRhino · 05/01/2007 18:14

I had about 3 weeks in the middle when I was about 24 weeks when I didn't feel tired All the rest of this pregnancy I have felt wiped out .36+ weeks now

bumperlicious · 05/01/2007 18:38

Well I guess it's good to know it's normal, but a bit pants that there is not much I can do about it except sleep!

honestly, try the spatone. it made a significant difference to me both pregnancies - you don't have to be actually anaemic to benefit. and exercise - if you can muster the willpower to do it, especially yoga, can be really energising.

LupinsBigLump · 05/01/2007 19:31

My tirednesss seems to have resurfaced this week (19wks) I havent been to ba since 14 weeks, hope you get energised soon

bumperlicious · 05/01/2007 20:23

Is there any problem with taking spatone if I'm not actually anaemic?

Another vote for Spatone and Floradix. I am anaemic this time round but in my last pregnancy I wasn't, just a bit low on iron and Spatone really helped.

UCM · 05/01/2007 20:42

No, as far as I know (have been very anaemic througout this pg) there isn't. In fact I recommended it to an unpregnant friend who was feeling tired all the time and whose bloods were ok but she said it was fabby too!!

Unfortunately I have to take some iron pills. Started 3 days ago because my iron levels are ridiculous. I couldn't take them any earlier cos they made me puke 24/7.
