Mouth Ulcers

Any tips on pregnant-safe remedies for mouth ulcers? The advice seems to be to avoid bonjella but salt water makes me gag.

I get them fairly frequently and normally just ignore them unless they're particularly bad, in which case I would normally use a prescribed mouthwash which says on the label not suitable for pregnant women, eek!

I'd speak to the pharmacist. Are you still taking Folic Acid? I had no ulcers at all during pregnancy and a friend said afterwards she takes Folic Acid everyday and her recurring ulcers have stopped.

Still taking Folic Acid, fingers crossed that helps then! Speaking to a pharmacist is probably the most sensible thing to do, I was hoping somebody might have a miracle tip for something I could just pick up at the shop :D

To be honest, everything says avoid during pregnancy because they can't do trials on pregnant women so they have to cover themselves. Therefore chatting to midwife, gp or pharmacist would be good.

Try changing your toothpaste to one that doesn't contain SLS. You'd be surprised at how many ulcer sufferers have changed their toothpaste and found no more ulcers.

For me, there's nothing in the shops that work. I go to this site www.mouthulcers.co.uk and get oralmedic. It's the same as Bonjela Once, which they no longer sell. Will need to check if ok for pregnancy but I don't see why not.

Some people say gargling sage.

B vitamins will help.

I was going to suggest going SLS free too - it's a foaming agent also in shampoos and I've found that's where it makes the biggest difference to me (not that I eat it, you understand ).

My ulcers have been awful during pregnancy - I've always suspected they were hormone related & I think I was right

anyway - it's not the greatest but corsodyl toothpaste plus corsodyl mouthwash have certainly helped and I was advised were 'safe' during pregnancy.

If you want something completely natural licorice in any form will help, if you have a quick google there are lots of advice.
