Feel like I'm just marking time at work until I can leave!

Going on maternity leave at the end of March - though I guess the nickname gives that away. I can't motivate myself to do any work. I feel like I'm just marking time here, particularly as I don't think I'll be returning to work. I just keep thinking up ways to leave earlier!

Arggh! Anyoen else feel like this? How can I get my motivation back?

forget the motivation - bigger things are going on! do the minimum amount to get by and enoy the last few weeks of pregnancy - and beign able to eat your breakfast and go to the loo on your own!

Plibble · 05/01/2007 12:51

It was like that for me too. But I didn't feel bad about having no motivation and instead spent my time making lists of names and things to buy for the baby, internet shopping and planning the nursery. You are clearly a more trustworthy employee than me!!

hertsnessex · 05/01/2007 12:57

take any extra holiday you have accrued for a cpl of pamper days before baby is here!

twelveweekstomaternityleave · 05/01/2007 13:15

Ooh, like the pampering idea. I've just been notified that we (admin staff) now get 25 days hols instead of 20. Yay! Was going to just take all of holiday allowance before the start of Mat Leave, but think I'll use more days between now and leaving instead. I suppose if I break up the time a bit more, it won't seem so long.

Have to say, feel better already knowing it's not just me. I'm usually so efficient and good at my job, but I actually think it's been noticed how work-shy I've become.

It's a very open plan office so it's bad enough trying to hide MN on my pc, yet alone pushchair websites.

Twelve weeks, I am feeling exactly the same and was exactly the same last time as well - I think we go into a baby bubble when pregnant where everything else seems insignificant. In meetings it is hard to be enthusiastic/care about things which will be happening after you have left and won't affect you directly.

Also going on maternity leave at the end of March so thanks for letting me know how long it is.

twelveweekstomaternityleave · 05/01/2007 13:56

I made a spreadsheet that counts down the working days.

Glad you're well. The hardcore posters on the May 07 threads were just wondering where the "missing" people were.

I'm the same 12weeks - in fact, the one useful or productive thing I have done today is place a figure in each week in my diary. So today I know I have 18 weeks to go and next week, I'll see that it's 17 etc etc. I am so jealous that you get to go on leave in March. As you know I'm due in May too but, in order to complete a year's service in my job and therefore qualify for maternity leave and pay, I have to keep working until the 4th May at least. I might start saving up my leave so that my last day will come a little bit sooner than planned.......

glitterkitty · 05/01/2007 15:23

LOL! What Plibble said! I have 8 weeks to go and I all I do if make lists/daydream/ surf web for baby stuff. Luckily my desk faces outwards so every now and then I shuffle papers, sigh, and type really fast looking stressed. Seems to work!

incy · 05/01/2007 16:42

Twelve weeks glad to see you are well also - I do read the May thread but can't keep up with it all - nice to find out about people at the same stage though.

Think I will have to construct a countdown chart as well !

marymillington · 05/01/2007 16:45

I felt exaclty like that, but then, all of a sudden when I had two months to go, go all into it and motivated again. You never know, you may have a second wind.

Remember, some people feel like you do all the time, so you can probably get away with taking it a wee bit slower....

cece · 05/01/2007 17:53

LOL

I remember teaching PE to year 6 the week before I went on mat leave... Sat on a chair with my feet up on a bench and blowing my whistle to referee some games they were playing!

The head caught me and came marching in then took another look at me then scuttled back out again without saying anything!

I did laugh a bit when i found this thread as I have been lacking any motivation since getting pg - but I'm only 12 weeks pg, not 12 weeks to go!!

I have never really loved my job, but still could get motivated usually to work hard, but now I am just going through the motions. Working hard but just dont care - and I dont like it, but I do think there are far more important things in life than work (or at least than a lot of jobs).

I think it doesnt help that a lot of my clients are going through separations (I'm a solicitor). I try and be impartial and not judge anyone but its harder now when you hear some of their attitudes to seeing and looking after their children post separation.

charNbump · 12/01/2007 16:35

"twelveweekstomaternityleave" i feel exactly the same. i have just under 10 weeks til i go on maternity and i'm literally counting the days!lol! we must be due very similar times? xx

3rdTriMossTer · 12/01/2007 16:42

Twelveweeks - you're only counting the weeks?!

I have 34 working days to go before I go off on maternity leave.

The job I was doing until last week was very difficult and stressful.

After quite a bit of help to get my courage up from some people here on MN I asked for a change in my role. The targets I have to hit now are much lower (okay the commission is much lower as well but that was never the problem and at least they have kept my salary the same) and come February, they will reduce my hours (okay from about 48 to 45 but it's still a result, I pretty much work for Ebeneezer Scrooge!).

So although I wouldn't say I'd "got my motivation back" I feel far less down about the situation. I don't plan to return here either; once my six months is up I'm going to look for something else closer to home.
