First scan!

Hey everyone,

This is my second pregnancy, sadly miscarried last year, I have my first scan coming up on the 8th of April, and was just wondering if anybody knows how many people can come to it with you? My partner will be there but I want both our mums there also, just incase anything happens then at least they got something to experience with us. Thankyou in advance for any replies

Will it be NHS? If so, just your partner. If you go privately, then you can often have four or more people in with you.

Only 1 person is allowed in with you but you can have your mums wait outside.

Thankyou for the quick replies!, it's with the NHS, will just have to give them pictures of the scan then. Also I don't suppose youse know any tricks to help with nausea, I have it 24/7 but can't seem to budge it, I've tried ginger but that makes me feel worse! X

As for nausea, you could try the wrist bands (I am not convinced they do a lot though). Otherwise sometimes eating dry biscuits, ice lollies, drinking milky hot chocolate or wearing few clothes so I was cold were all things that help me.

Sleep has been my saviour for nausea (and sipping lucozade) x

I try to sleep but the nausea makes it hard and the constant needing a wee haha

NHS scanners usually don't take to kindly for them being used for 'entertainment' purposes. So if you turn up in a group it usually doesn't go down too well.

Private scan places often welcome up to 8 people and make more of an 'event' from it. We had a 16 week gender scan and they play a guessing game. So that might be nice to invite them too.

I had a 32 week scan and was on my own (novelty has worn off by then) and I was a bit upset at all the women with their partners in the waiting room. So when I had my 36 weeks scan I had a quiet word with them before that my husband and mum happened to be there and could my mum have a quick peek, if it wasn't too much trouble, they were really welcoming. We got the medical bit out the way then my mum got to see the screen.

I had an NHS one yesterday and there was a notice up saying one person only with you but then children or others can come in at the end.

I'd pay for a private one if you want to make a big deal of it (I mean that in a nice way!).

We're very private and I only wanted my DH there. Private scans are lovely.

Private as in paid for scans are lovely lol. I'm not making much sense sorry OP!

One person for scans at my hospital too.

Salt and vinegar crisps saved me in my first trimester, and always having a supply of rice cakes and water - came in so handy when stuck on the tube!

I ate a shed full during the first trimester to try to keep nausea at bay... I ate ginger nuts, mini cheddars, breadsticks, potato waffles etc. Couldn't stand tea or anything milky though!!

I was allowed my partner plus one extra guest. Of this is the case could you ask one mum to go to the 12 week scan and one to the 20?

Congratulations! And good luck with your scan. I have my first one this week. They've told me I can only bring one person, so my husband is coming. I'm a bit nervous as although I've read everything about it, I am just so anxious to make sure everything is ok. Fingers crossed!!
