I spoke to my MW about where I would like to have my baby, I've asked for a home birth which my MW is all for it, and she said why don't you have a "home water birth" But I said I really didn't have the room for a pool she said well it'll be August birth why not have the birth pool outside in your back garden, really thinking about it. MW also said I could were a bikini! Hot sun or warm night sky, Bikini, water pool, poeple on tap to get me this and that, also "gas & air" on tap what could be better! also to add My MIL has a great big white with sides gazebo (fit 4 brith pools in) so you know Im going to start being extra nice to her now.
What do you think, go for it or a no no?

Great idea! Although dd was born in Jan so I'd have been a bit cold

Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 20:28

OOOh, that sounds lovely! You could make it such a little haven!

I guess you could get an outdoor heater or something, to warm it up abit? Inside the gazebo? Or indoor (if not raining) with extension lead? Sounds an excellent idea.

SmileysPeople · 04/01/2007 20:30

Sounds absolutely wonderful.

Hope the neighbours don't mind the noise though...

PoppiesMum · 04/01/2007 20:34

Oooohhh, the noise...the swearing...the violence!!

PanicPants · 04/01/2007 20:35

Are you MAD??!!!

SmileysPeople · 04/01/2007 20:36

Hmm wouldn't work in my garden. neighbours both sides, would need all sides of gazobo down and whole street would hear.
Oh well DH will be releived.
Does sound fantastic though if you can.

Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 20:41

I can imagine it being all candle lit, scatter rugs everywhere, aromatherapy (sp?) oils burning... Imagination running away with me I think!

SoupDragon · 04/01/2007 20:54

August in the UK? It'll probably be freezing cold and raining.

MKG · 04/01/2007 20:55

I love the idea!

CocoLoco · 04/01/2007 20:57

Depends how quiet you are when you're giving birth and how nosy your neighbours are.... Outdoor birth in the summer would be idyllic - have you read the birth story of Grey Forest Walt? (google it, lovely photos). There was another outdoor birth story I loved, with the mother in a hottub. Can't find the link for that one though.

What a great sounding midwife you have, btw

Bodkin · 04/01/2007 21:14

Oooh yes - a gin and tonic to slurp on, DH turning sausages on the barbie in between contractions, Club Tropicana playing on the stereo.....

Erm, yes, getting a bit carried away there,
but you have just made my day with the whole mental picture...

BabyMadwithBump · 04/01/2007 21:36

MIL is loving the idea to, she going to bring Champaign. We could have some music going, alittle party BUT THE POOL IS MINE lol. All depends on the weather and the hour but I can hope that it'll go the way I want. I've never made any noise in labour or the birth of my other two DC I seem to just go into a trans IYSWIM, and my neighbours make loads of noise all year round so I can have my one day, if I have some music playing then if I do make some noise then the music will drown it out! Yes I love my MW, she's right down to earth too!

Fab idea, I love it! Very Earth Mother!

LadyTophamHatt · 05/01/2007 18:02

personally, I couldn't think of anything worse.

I've had 2 Hb's and doing it in the garden would be a a right PITA IMO.
