Sitting next to a smoker at work

Ok, maybe I am over worrying but I had cancer last year plus 4 miscarriages. 2 miscarriages at around the 12 week point.

I'm 12 weeks pregnant again. The women I sit next to at work is a smoker and I can smell the smoke off her when she comes back from her cigarette break. We sit quite close together.

Does anyone know if the risk is minimal. It's kind if annoying because I don't smoke myself and don't want the afters of someone else's cigarette. I feel it would make things too awkward if I asked to move.

I agree it prob does not smell nice.
But she has had her ciggie outside, nowhere near you. How on earth is that going to harm you. You will take in more toxins walking down a street past a road with cars. Deffo over thinking.

It won't harm you, but I understand why you're worried.
It does amaze me though that smokers don't realise how rank they are.

Just throw up on her every time she comes back stinking.

I have asthma and I know that it's not just passive smoking that affects me, it is all the particles in clothes\fabric too that trigger it, so I do think it is fair enough to be concerned, maybe just say it is triggering morning sickness and ask to be moved for that reason? Lots of people think it is a non issue but I think it is.

I'd probably ask to be moved; there is nothing more grim than the stench of fag smoke. Total sympathy OP!

...but I'm sure it won't be doing you any harm unless you are asthmatic, though I think when pregnant it is totally normal to avoid things you wouldn't normally worry about and if it makes you feel better then totally worth getting moved.

Annie lovely....no just true. Smokers smell disgusting just after a cigarette. Worse than whilst they are actually smoking. My colleague's breath also smells like poo literally just after she comes back from a smoking break. Blergh.

I would ask to move if I were you. I'm 99.99% sure if won't harm you or your baby but it might make you feel sick so in my book that's reason enough to move.

I have a facial a while ago, I could tell the beautician was a smoker, it was horrible, so I do sympathise.

Smokers do stink, some more than others. I cringe when I think about how much I must have stunk back when I was a chimney but I was completely oblivious at the time layering on body spray and mints haha

Yeah I think I'd be asking to move. It's grim and would definitely have triggered my sickness. I used to gag if I was in the lift with/after a smoker. Vile. They really don't know how rotten they smell - I didn't as a smoker (years ago now!) and like a PP, cringe when I think about.
