Hello lovely mummies out there! I am new to mums net I just come across this on google and thought I would mingle and get to know some more new first time mummy's out there or already mums etc...

Anyway so Me and my beautiful Fiancée have been trying to conceive a baby again for some time now! I have had many complications with my previous pregnancy and unfortunately it ended up as a miscarriage. So ever since we have been trying so hard to conceive again and we was beginning to lose hope.
HOWEVER!!! Yesterday I took a pregnancy test and blow me away it come back positive at first I did not know how to react or jump for joy cry .... etc.
So I went to the shops and brought some more tests and did them all and they all come back with the 2 lines the plus all symbolising that we are PREGNANT!!

I am so happy right now but at the same time I have lots of questions and worried about what happens next as I want to make sure everything goes to plan, And no complications and trying to avoid anything from happening that I could prevent.

So what do I eat ?? Can and can not for all mums already out there or mums to be any good help and advice would be much appreciated!

Also I know I have lots of time on my hands yet but it's bugging me about not knowing what to expect through my pregnancy and also , When my baby does arrive what size bottles etc I need this kind of thing.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Firstly you will need to book on with a midwife (I'm sure you know this from previous pregnancy) and make sure your taking your pregnancy vitamins.

As far as eating goes, be sensible is the best advice.
There are lots of websites which will have foods to avoid but the ones I remember:
Soft cheese - eg Brie
Blue cheese - eg Stilton
Pate
Liver (or any offal)
Raw fish
Un pasteurised milk (milk from supermarkets will all be fine)
You will need to limit your caffeine (I saved mine for chocolate)

Make sure your eating enough fruit & veg. If you find yourself with morning stickiness/all day sickness then it's more important to eat what you can. Babies will take all the nourishment they need from what your getting.

Make sure you drink enough water.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do to have a 'smooth pregnancy' you just have to do your best to stay healthy etc. I developed a condition called colostaisis (sp ?) towards the end of pregnancy which isn't something you can avoid (it's very rare though so don't panic about that)

Depending where you get your advice from your baby will feed between 6-10 times in a 24hr period.
Small bottles are fine but you won't need them for that long as baby will require more and more food as the weeks go by so your fine to get either just large ones or a combination of both.

So, things I would do different:

Telling people my due date - I would probably tell them I was due a couple of weeks later. Is baby here texts from 35 weeks annoyed me!

Leave work earlier - I left at 38 weeks. 4 days of waters breaking/induction and baby here at 39 weeks meant I had no real mat leave to myself!

Rest, rest and more rest. Pregnancy is tiring as is having a baby. Rest whilst you can. I didn't enough before LO came along.

Take photos of your pregnancy for a record for yourself.

Enjoy your pregnancy. I hated mine (for no real reason) but your growing a person and that is pretty special. No one else can grow this baby like you can!

I just want to say a big thank you for replying to my first thread with all this detail , I'm sorry that you had to experience that during your pregnancy, And I wish you all the very best for your future :)

I have just had a look at the link you have sent with your post , and that looks like something I will go for then , As I will be on a budget at the same time as I can imagine having a baby is going to be demanding , And expensive also but well worth it.

I am currently taking on board your advice with eating etc, Because I do eat a fair amount of cheese and cereal but with milk it has always been super market milk anyway , Like semi skimmed green milk. As for my cheese I will cut that out now what about eggs ? I heard that I can not eat eggs either during pregnancy as this is a risk factor? How true is that do you know.

Caffeine will not be an issue with me as I don't really drink it much anyway, The only time I would have caffeine is in the odd fizzy pop diet I would drink but I'm replacing them now with fruit juice's instead.

I am still so very excited I took another couple of tests this morning to confirm I wasn't dreaming haha!

Eggs are fine, the advice is to make sure they're cooked (so no runny yolks) if you want to be over cautious. Make sure you're taking folic acid and vitamin d for at least the first 12 weeks as well.

Definitely take loads of pics of your bump and don't tell people when you're in labour! Your labour could be 2 hours or 2 days so you don't want everyone rushing over straight away. Wait till baby is here and have a few hours as a family then let people know when you're ready. Congratulations

Just had a thought. After about 20 weeks pregnant I started adding about £5 worth of baby bits to my weekly shop (eg nappies, wipes etc) to help reduce some costs after baby was born. If you do this don't stock up massively on one brand as you may not like them or your baby might not.

As Laurie said, eggs are fine. Also make sure your food is cooked properly eg no rare steak have it medium.

Also, listen to everyone's advice and decide which bits may help you. You will be told lots of different stuff but ultimately you need to do what is right for you and your expanding family!

You can buy folic acid very cheaply at any pharmacy or supermarket.

You can buy folic acid, you should be on it from ttc. Get some asap.

Yes you can get it anywhere.

Yes Boots will have it, and all the main supermarkets do own brand folic acid supplements now. Look in the vitamin section and you will find it.

Congratulations!

Get started on the folic acid but don't panic about not having taken it from TTC - I didn't take it at all (didn't find out I was pregnant for a while) and DD is very healthy.
