At the beginning of my pregnancy a close family member very kindly offered to buy us a moses basket and stand. I in no way expected them to buy anything and so both both myself & DH thought that this was a lovely offer.
However I am now 35 weeks and there is still no sign of this. Last month DH received a message from them saying they had ordered a basket and stand to match the nursery, however a few weeks later she asked me which design I wanted which made me think that it hadn't been ordered as they said it had. Last week I saw a design i liked and so sent her a picture, she responded saying 'i'll look into it the end of the month'.
At the end of the month I will be close to my due date and so I am anxious to get this bought, home and set up. We also have cats and my plan was for us to have the basket around for a few weeks prior so they could get used to it been around, and for us to make sure they are not using it themselves before baby arrives.
I feel a little stuck about what to do. Do I ask them when we will receive this? Or should I leave it until the end of the month to see what happens? Or do I buy it myself to reduce the risk of not having this in time (and how do I do this without hurting their feelings)? This family member does have previous with gifts offered and them not appearing, eg a very generously promised wedding present (& again in no way expected) has never appeared and we married 5 years ago. So as bad as i feel for saying this, i kind of don't believe that the moses basket will appear either and so I am reluctant to place my trust in them for this item.
