Rhesus negative blood I'm confused now.

Hello, there's another thread going that I don't fully understand and got me worried. I'm RH negative and had the anti d injection after I had my son 4 years ago. Is there a risk to this baby? I thought I'd just have another jab like my first after birth and there would be no extra risk to this one? The thread (although different circumstances) has got me confused?!

If you had anti d after the last delivery then that should have taken care of any antibodies. Usually at 12 weeks when you have the first blood test they also check for antibodies.

You'll be fine. You'll need an injection of anti-d if you bleed and I think there is a standard one during pregnancy and after the birth depending on the baby's blood type.

I have 3 children. I only had 1 anti-d jab each time after they were born.
All 3 are fine.

I am sure you get them during the pregnancy at set times and then after birth if the baby is found to have rh+ blood.

3 here as well. Anti D after each birth plus one after an amnio with my third and a small bleed with my second.
Having much older female relatives who are also RH neg and have had related problems before the anti D became available I had no problems accepting it.

I've got 3 kids I had anti d after all 3 and at about 30 weeks with dc 2 and 3. I was told I would also need it I had any bleeding during pregnancy

Amazing thank you: so no extra risk. I had my bloods at 12 weeks and they Havn't said anything so I'm assuming there's still antibodies in my blood. I don't know why you would refuse it as I didn't think there was any risks to you and you needed it?! But I'm of the rule of thought where I don't have a medical degree and the professionals do so I do what they say without much thought

If you had anti d last time there'll be no risk to this baby. You'll need anti d again with this baby though

The thread you are talking about the lady had anti d with baby number 1, but not with baby number 2 and so there is a risk that she has anti bodies from baby number 2 which would attack baby number 3 if she has another pregnancy (in the thread she is debating whether to have number 3 because of that).

If you don't have anti d and your baby is Rh positive there is a chance that your two bloods will mix and your body will make antibodies to attack the rh+ proteins. If the next baby is rh+ then those antibodies would attack the baby's rh+ proteins, which could kill it. Anti d prevents you from making those proteins, but it only lasts a short while.

Anti d is made from other people's blood (got through donating blood) so some people don't like the idea of that.
