On behalf of my SIL in London, if you went privately where would you go to give birth 1st time..?

Personally the NHS has served me well for my 3 so far, but i don't think it's an option for her and it's her 1st. - although her local is St. Mary's. Anyone been to John and Lizzies? Any recommendations? Thanks for all help!

Not been private myself but friends have gone to the Portland and been happy
Heard good things about St J & E
Another friend is going to St Marys this month - it seems to have the best rep as it has all the emergency NHS back up on site but you need to book in early

Ah update on Portland - friend of DH just had 2nd baby there. MW screwed up and failed to realise baby was breech. All okay in the end thankfully

A good friend highly recommends John and Lizzie's, much less intervention than at the Portland if that is what she is looking for.

Hi Earthtomummy - St Mary's has a private labour ward facility - the Lindo wing (so does Tommie's) and so you get all the advantage of the NHS (much better in a real emergency - good intensive care, and neonatal intensive care if needed) but get the private extras. Not tried any of them but it is worth looking into especially as she is close to Mary's. (Google the Lindo wing & Mary's it should come up) Know it has a good reputation
Hope this helps

If she has to pay the cost herself, then a private midwife, or the that private Birth Centre in south London, are worth considering? Probably better if she wants a low-intervention birth, obviously.

You can combine a private midwife with scans at the FMS (or wherever) for a (relatively) inexpensive, but entirely private, experience, assuming you manage your home birth.
