maternity jeans

Hi

I'm popping out of my normal jeans and need to buy a pair of maternity ones. I'm a size 16 with a big bum and bug legs, Any suggestions of where will be good to buy them? I don't want to spend too much as they will hardly get any use as it is just weekends I'll be wearing them. We popped into H&M and saw a pair for £50 which I can't justify for something which will barely be worn hoping for a nice long summer where jeans won't be needed.

Honestly? The only decent ones I've found, over two pregnancies, are the Leigh ones in Topshop - but they're not that cheap.

Mothercare ones stretch and fade v badly, while the Asos ones fell down to the point that I couldn't wear them out of the house, as I was hoiking them up every 10 seconds.

If you're only after something to potentially last until summer, and you don't want to spend much money, could you get away with a pair of cheap low-cut jeggings in a bigger size, such as Dorothy Perkins' Eden? I think they do an 18?

Online only round here. Not sure about shape/size specific but I got my work trousers from Vertbaudet and they're the only things that stay up. (Wish I'd bought jeans too, but 37+3 seems a bit late now)

All maternity jeans are evil and make a break for my knees at the first hint of movement.

I'm a size 14 usually, with big hips. I find the Gap jeans great. Unlike Seraphine ones, which are pricier, they came up far enough on my hips to stay up well. Wore the under and over bump ones at different stages

I like my next jeans. I paid about £28 for my (not-so) skinny pair and they have a really supportive over-the-bump band.

I really like the H&M ones. They're not that expensive - they do quite a few different ones and most are much less than £50.

I got mine from next online for £25.

Another vote for Gap maternity jeans, not expensive and hardwearing, have lasted well over two pregnancies, good quality, comfy too.

The gap ones are fantastic, and definitely stay up! Nice and stretchy and keep their shape. They are bit more expensive than some at £40ish, but there are quite often gap discount codes around. I found h&m quite hit and miss with sizing, they definitely need trying on in the shop as there's huge variation just between different styles. New look supersoft skinnies are also pretty good and fairly cheap.

H&m are very good, mine were £35 (over bump, bootcut) and i kept my eye out for a 15% off card on a magazine so got for under £30. Worn almost daily for 4 months they were a bargain compared to most things in my wardrobe.

Matalan if your local store actually stocks maternity , they're about 12-15 pounds. I had 2 pairs that saw me through. Also check eBay, I bought a pair of blooming marvellous from a wholesaler brand-new for 10 pounds. I'd never pay the full price in mother care for them, but at that price they were good. Mothercare's over bump jeans were very poor quality in my ooinion , the bump band was very poorly attached.

I'm in awe of anyone who can maternity jeans after about 20 weeks-I find them so uncomfortable once my bump gets in any way bump-y. They constantly feel like they're falling down-it's like the denim is too heavy for the elastic keeping them up. And I've tried next, gap, topshop and h&m! I've totally embraced the legging (which I normally hate) or wearing dresses. Sorry I know that's not what you asked!!

I've found next jeans to be great. I got mine in the sale for about £15 each. Worth having a look online.

Gap overbump skinnies. They're great, I'm looking at getting another pair for my last 6 weeks...

Mine were £35 fromH&M they were over the bump. I miss them!!!!

Next jeans are surprisingly great. Don't forget you may end up wearing them for a few months after the baby's born so you'll get a fair bit of wear out of them. Glares at own stomach.

What I did find good was this website: Just Maternity Jeans, and in particular these dungarees (which are pricey, but I got them on offer and they've been the most comfortable thing to wear). One tip though, unbutton the elastic bit on the back before you wash them. I only realised this the other day and the elastic has started to go already. But they've been brilliant!

I got mine online from bonprix. Their sizes are a bit slapdash so I ordered several but with free returns it didn't matter.

I had a few pairs from H&M that were about £25 each. They size very small though and I found they fell down a lot. I also had some from Asos and, surprisingly, Mamas and Papas which were both pretty good.

The best ones I had were by Jessica Simpson at Motherhood Maternity in the US (we travelled there when I was 23 weeks). They were super cheap, a great wash and I didn't have to hoik them up every five minutes. I only got to 30+5 weeks with twins but I'm confident they would have still fitted me if I'd gone to term. They probably ship to the UK but understand it's a bit of a faff!

Red Herring at Debenhams have been brilliant! They have a small but very good maternity section. Have had jeans, trousers, tops from there and they've all fit well, been good quality and lasted ages. I had a good pair of skinny trousers from H&M last time that I practically lived in, but tried some on this time round and they came up tiny - am usually a size 10, haven't put on much weight and couldn't get the 14s past my thighs! Also very overpriced IMO.

Red herring ones worked well for my pear shaped rear, plus they aren't too expensive. I found them pretty true to size too.

I found the elastic in the H&M ones was rubbish and they kept falling down but I loved the Mothercare ones, they were so comfy. I'd wear them all the time if I could!
