Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

1More I've been given different medication when I went in for a bleed and the midwives felt sorry for me hobbling around and throwing up so much. It sounds like you've been fobbed off because so may hcp just don't understand.
As I understand it you can get rehydrated and medication if you go into a&e. I've not had a direct experience of it but that's only because my gp and Midwife have been really proactive.

squeezed I can imagine that is frustrating but my dh would be the same but because he would hate seeing me so ill. Agree part time or reduced hours might be good compromise

1more gutted that despite acknowledging you are at risk of dehydration they want you to wait until Monday!

sleepy sorry about hospitalisation and canulla issues here's hoping there's not a next time!

One very poorly ds full of cold and being upset about not being allowed biscuits all day! Early night for him. I've enjoyed the cuddles although been very sick and not kept anything down so far today Sad

1more How are things now? mrsmonkeyFine advice. I didn't realise buccastem. was sold over the counter; I know cyclizine is (absurdly, not given to someone pregnant, though it's been used as a safe anti emetic in pregnancy for years).
icklekid Very sorry to hear you've had a bad day with LO ill.
squeezed I'm glad they took pity on you!
I hope everyone else is coping.

Dh has handed me vanilla ice cream and I have stopped crying about how pregnancy is ruining my life. I feel guilty as I am looking forward to baby, I just hate being pregnant. I'm being crappy and self centred. Others have it far worse than me, and I should be grateful I've had a manageable week.

I just hate being sick, and sadly vomiting doesn't get easier the more you do it. Even when I'm not vomiting I'm constantly in fear of throwing up, and I struggle so much to eat in the first place that it's very frustrating to vomit and then start the hungry/sick cycle again.

1more you can get buccastem over the counter, but not if you're pregnant. I got some at 8 weeks and had to lie through my teeth when I wanted to buy it over the counter. Told them it was for migraines and I'd been prescribed it previously. Obviously this is very irresponsible and I wouldn't recommend to anyone, though I'd happily do it again for myself (if buccastem worked for me).

sleepy sorry you're having a rough time. How are you feeling now?

ickle sorry your DS is not feeling well. Can't be easy for you!

Hope others are having a more enjoyable Saturday night. Flowers

Sorry to hear so many of you having rough times 😞 I wish id have known you could take buccastem when I was at my worst... I used to take it for unexplained nausea episodes before Amy, it worked wonders... Took Amy out for the day today and I'm bloody knackered! Left dh a list of chores to do as he was being a bit of an arse last night because I had the audacity to ask him to chip in with amys bedtime... I normally clean the house on Saturdays while all he has to do is entertain Amy and wash up... I told him in no uncertain terms we were swapping today and I'd clean the kitchen after my day out with Amy... Got back and the house was gleaming, even the kitchen... I think he realises he f*cked up last night Grin

1more How are things this morning? Been thinking of you.
Specialstains Glad you feel better. Ice cream (generally cheap if poss) does seem to be soothing. Don't blame yourself for being miserable or moaning; that's what this thread is for, and nobody expects to get Hyperemesis. I see I should have seen it coming myself, as 'history of bad migraine' (no doubt due to hormonal imbalance) predisposes people to it, according to some medical guidelines.
It's interesting about bucc. It sounds good, and I wonder it isn't the first line of defence instead of cyclizine; but I suppose expense may be a factor? It certainly is,re Ondansetron.
amysmummy I am glad OH feels guilty and cleaned determindly!

Does heartburn make the sickness worse? Never had it before and had a terrible night of it and was much more sick than usual. Feeling grumpy again because the sickness has kicked up a gear. I'm 30 weeks tomorrow FFS.

Squeezed I've always found that heartburn makes the sickness worse. The GP put me on omeprazole (I'm already on ondansetron and prochlorperazine) and it did reduce the acid voms a bit.

Report
squeezed · 06/03/2016 12:01

madrigal Thanks for that. I might call the gp tomorrow then to see if I can get something. Back up to 7 voms a day isn't good.

Happy Mothers Day to my fellow HG mamas. Hope these sproglets are gentle to you all today. I had blueberries with breakfast today, which made my puke PINK so that was a lovely Mother's Day treat (can you tell I'm clutching at straws to remain positive)?? 37 weeks tomorrow here!

Hi everyone, sorry so many of you are still suffering.

Just to let you know I have arrived at the pink castle! DD born at 06.47 this morning weighing 8lbs12ozs. Made it to hospital this time! And I can now eat again 😀 Keep on keeping on all of you, it really is worth it! She's asleep on my chest now and I can't stop watching her.

Big congratulations barmee, and what a great weight for a HG pregnancy. When DC1 was born he was only 6lb 3oz at 39 weeks and I was sure it's because I hadn't fed him very well.

Sounds like a lot of us have been feeling rough. Touch wood, I haven't been sick since I came out of hospital and have managed to eat a bit more food. Having been weighed, I know I need to as I've lost 1stone 2lb in 4 weeks.

squeezed I suffered really bad heartburn during my first pregnancy - I realised that the anti sickness meds often made it worse but it was a catch 22 situation. Midwife got the doctor to prescribe the good gavison rather than the cheap non branded type. I was often found swigging it from the bottle!

Hope everyone is having a good Mother's Day. I got a card from DS and a card from bump. First time I was pregnant, DH got me a card from bean that said 'I might still be in your tummy but you're already my mummy' - thought it was very sweet.

Hurrah! Congratulations barmee what lovely news and a great reminder of what awaits us all! Hope you are getting on ok. (Go on, tell us, what'll be the first thing you eat when you get home??!)

1more how are you doing, did you have to go to a&e? Interesting re buccastem, I obv have a very lax pharmacy, I dragged myself round the corner and presented them with my box of Ondansetron on which I'd scrawled 'buccastem' during phone call with consultant, they sold it to me no questions asked! (Had baby on board badge on coat etc). I did double check with consultant before taking as the leaflet says not for pregnant women and he confirmed it was safe (I was 13 wks at the time). I guess best to get medical advice before taking but it did help me keep the Ondansetron down.

Everyone must feel free to complain away on here.

I'm having ok day so far, decided to up the Ondansetron (tried to cut down due to horrendous constipation but it didn't go well). Feel nauseous but no voms and I managed to eat some well scrambled egg for the first time this pregnancy so I'm viewing it as a special achievement.

Mother's Day love to all. Hope those with DC already are having a nice rest.

Happy mothers day everyone!

Congratulations barmee enjoy lots of cuddles and snacks!

amysmummy glad your dh realises that he needs to up the anti a bit, fingers crossed it's not just a one off!

mrsmonkey sounds sensible not to cut down ondansetron too quickly. Good work on eggs!

sleepy people keep telling me I've lost weight but am at a loss as to what I can do about it. I haven't kept any meals down the last 3 days. Managed some lunch and hour ago and fingers crossed the half a roll I had may stay down.

shoop pink vomiting how romantic Wink on the plus side hopefully not long to go now...

squeezed I found gavison tablets that you chew better last time, also on prescription so worth a try perhaps! At least the thought was there with the chocolate heart!

Right ds has been asleep for nearly 2hours so going to make the most of my rest before the afternoon survival mode kicks in!
Out of interest those who have been signed off work when did you feel ready to go back? I am down from 10 voms a day to 4/5 so definitely an improvement but don't want to push myself too soon and get worse. However I miss work and the satisfaction I get from it! (Also got major building work starting soon so won't be that peaceful at home for long! )

barmee Congratulations! What a lovely mothers day! When you get a moment where youre not gazing lovingly at your newborn, please tell me all about how wonderful food tastes again!

Ickle, I was off from about 6 weeks to 16. I had mostly stopped vomiting, though probably could have gone back earlier if I had a sitting down desk job. I have enjoyed my first week back, it definitely was a nice change, but God I'm feeling it this weekend.

Hi all, happy Mother's Day to you lovely ladies. Hope you manage a bit of rest.

Barmee what wonderful news!! Congrats!! Enjoy cuddles but yes I second eallis advice of trying to rest. Hope you enjoyed the toast and tea! Yummy!!

Shoop here's hoping you won't have to wait too long...and then is it me next on the list after you?? 7 weeks and 4/5 days to go!! Hurry up April!

Dd is being an absolute nightmare and not letting me rest so I feel rubbish. On top of the crappy nausea/gross taste in my mouth, I'm having really bad period pains...including down my left leg. I usually get awful pains down my leg just before I start my period. If I didn't know any better, I would think aunt flow was on her way!

Sorry some of you are still suffering so badly. I do think the worst weeks are between 7-11...and after that you should get a few good days if not a recovery. Unfortunately no recovery at 16 weeks for me this time. And those of you attempting to go back up work, pls don't push yourselves. I went back at 15 weeks and regretted it. It was a real struggle and I'm so thankful I no longer have to worry...no more awful Sunday blues!

Ickle your comment about always being a teacher made me laugh. You're right! I can defo hear my teacher voice when I speak to dd or my nieces/nephews.

Those with heartburn/acid reflux I also recommend omeprazole (sp?)...so much better than ranitidine (can not keep down Gaviscon).

Well deserved and more so for all your suffering xxx
Reebok my docs won't give me omeprazole. ..
I keep waking at around 2 /3 am to acid bubbling in my throat it's so gross and painful and makes me feel so sick .

Spd gives me the terrible period type pains so it's probably that.plus it's my left leg that feels like it's been torn off and stuck back on wrong sob sob...
Xxx
