I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all, just a quick one as I'm feeling rubbish today. Thought the avomine was working but I've had some bad bouts of nausea and vomiting and feeling really weak all day. Do you think this is the best I can expect or is it worth switching meds? (I would say I'm better on these meds than off them) also, does anyone know about paracetamol in pregnancy? I find they ease my stomach but have since read that they may cause problems with a male baby's fertility when taken in the first trimester (? Man, there is just too much to worry about!)

icklekid · 12/04/2016 06:58

Hi ladies so sorry am shattered and not feeling great today. 20 week scan was amazing and baby fine. Hopefully cheer up those of you struggling with a pic. So sorry to hear about poo problems and echo calls to take care with dehydration. Will come back and try for personal messages later.

I took Avomine for a while but I felt like I'd been sedated so knocked them on the head Confused a lot of women on here swear by ondansetron so its really worth asking for alternatives!!
I had a crazy, itchy bump last time with Amy... Now it's just all over Angry I found moisturizing bump helped as it must have been from the skin stretching Hmm

Freshbreadandfaith · 12/04/2016 08:08

Thankyou ladies!!
Someone on this thread a while back maybe a week ago was talking about layered potatoes that went down well? Was it daphnoise potatoes? I didn't eat anything yesterday pm and went to sleep dreaming about potatoes, I thought they might go down well compared to other foods?
Hugs to you all as you start your day xx yesterday my mum was worried about me and said "you can't go on like this barely existing" she seems to have forgotten that in my last pregnancy I struggled to get out of bed for six weeks and certainly didn't leave the house in that time either. Xx

spandau1980 · 12/04/2016 12:28

Reebok there is a harmless thing with itchy spots in pregnancy
Google it can't rem name but it's not harmless just irritating
My bumps been itchy but no spots just stretchy skin me thinks
I've had no end of drama again
Banging on about GD and infections
Had bloods took
Refused gtt
I'm 36 plus 5 now so seems pretty pointless as not ill with any symptoms apart from bit more fluid around baby :/
They then said see u for next scan ect on my due date !!!
Idiots
Had to sort that out so seeing consultant next Monday

Hope everyone else is baring up and u will get to the 36 plus week mark like me andyou will survive it
If I can (I'm no saint) then you lovely ladies can

Xxx

SleepymrsE · 12/04/2016 14:51

spandau hops little one doesn't make you wait too much longer. And thank you for the great boost to those suffering - it's much needed today.

After feeling pretty good yesterday I stupidly didn't take one of my tablets last night but boy am I suffering today. Sick this morning and felt rotten all day. Managed a few spoonfuls of cornflakes and half a banana. Home from work now so going to try a bit of food and a snooze. I really hope I wake up feeling better because I'm always worse in an evening. Luckily parents have DS tonight to give me and DH a full nights sleep.

ickle great news on the scan - glad all is ok. Sorry to hear you're feeling rough too. I think we're both doing too much at the moment which is having a negative impact.

Waves to everyone else - sorry for lack of personals, feeling too rough to write more.

amysmummy12345 · 12/04/2016 16:47

Lovely photo ickle 😊 xx

Twinklelittlestar1 · 12/04/2016 16:48

Ickle the picture is gorgeous, I can't wait to have my first (early) scan next week, at the moment I don't feel pregnant, just feel like I've got a nasty bug.

Fresh, did you try the potatoes? Microwaved jacket potatoes are one of my staple foods (well, those and gaviscon!) but it takes me about three hours to eat one.

Sleepy hope you feel better soon. Hope you get that good night sleep and feel better in the morning.

I went back to the docs today and he switched me to cyclizine. So far I've had a much improved appetite and no nausea but I did have diarrhoea about an hour after taking it and my stomach feels icky like I have a bug. Anyone had anything like that on cyclizine? It wasn't in the listed side effects.

LucindaE · 12/04/2016 16:57

Freshbreadandfaith I hope your bowels have calmed down. Lol about shocking your OH with your graphic descriptions. I hope you didn't have the Liquids coming out of All Orifices Experience!
Reebok I hope the doctor can give something to calm things down. I don't understand why they don't let you take enemas or suppositories at this late stage - when they didn't seem bothered if labour kicks in early as its past 36 weeks?
Twinkle Do ask for other meds. There are plenty for them to choose from.
icklekid What a lovely scan photo. Thanks for posting it.
ammysummy Great advice. Lol about the results of a 'quicky'.
SleepymrsE Congratulations on surviving work when feeling so bad.
mrsmonkey I never knew before you could get bucaastem over the counter. spandau I don't understand the issues myself, but that sounds like a sensible decision over GD so near the end.
MotherofPearl Great advice as ever.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 12/04/2016 17:00

Twinkle Cross posted as always, so my advice is redundant. Glad you got new meds. It would be annoying if that was the unusual way they affected you, unless it's a virus?

OP posts:
Freshbreadandfaith · 12/04/2016 19:04

Sleepy glad parents are helping out with ds tonight. Helpful parents who live nearby are worth their weight in gold!!! My dh had flu for a week now in second week has a chest infection and is so unwell, his mum is bringing round food and cleaning but I really really needed help with dd as I don't feel great either so dd and I have moved in with my parents which is proving to be so helpful at this time
Twinkle I had boiled potatoes today, went down well
I agree with you twinkle that at the moment it doesn't feel like I'm pregnant just feels like I have a nasty bug
Lots of love everyone xxx

Reebok · 12/04/2016 22:36

Lucinda no idea. Doctors are idiots! Couldn't get a gp app so another night suffering with the itching. Spandau did you mean pupps? You've come so far and doing so well.

Ickle congrats on the scan. It's lovely.

Sleepy sorry you feel so rubbish. And fresh, twinkle...you too. Another day is down. This too shall pass...Lucindas wonderful words were what got me through my darkest days when I contemplated abortion...as horrible as that sounds.
It really does make you feel poisoned...my first scan helped me to connect with baby...I would often look at the scan to remind me that i was creating a human and not just sick.

Took dd nursery this morning for the first time in ages. She was so excited...but it was exhausting to walk there...should take me 12 minutes but with the contractions took half an hour each way. I honestly thought I was going to go into labour after it...the nursery staff did too! 37+4 today and just fed up. This nausea, yucky taste in my mouth, vomiting, saliva, itching and contractions is enough to drive a person insane!!! Sorry for complaining...I know there are lots of you in the early stages worse off. Love to you all x

squeezed · 13/04/2016 09:16

reebok You really have had a lot to deal with. I do hope that baby gets here soon. Could you try a tens machine. The consultant suggested it as an option yesterday for my spd.
fresh Totally agree with how much having supportive gps around helps. I really don't know what we would have done without the in laws. They are amazing. My DM on the other hand balances out some help with being completely unhinged.
twinkle Good that the appetite is back. I'm not taking cyclizine, but since my diet had improved I've had more diarrhoea. I think my digestive system is treating veg as foreign bodies.
I read an article about paracetamol effecting fertility. I think that with all these studies it's difficult to know what really happens. I'm taking the max dose of paracetamol a day and also some codeine. I spoke with the different hcp and on balance, it's safe enough that I feel comfortable with it.
sleepy Hope you had good night of sleep.

spandau I've had a few growth scans because I'm measuring big. Probably because the baby is sticking her bottom out. Anyway, scans show a bigger baby but as I've not had proteins in my urine and no other symptoms /risk factors, they don't think it's GD, so no GTT. Scan on due date, ridiculous!
Ickle Love the scan photo. Like reebok said, sometimes it'd hard to remember that you are growing a baby and not just I'll. I had a scan yesterday and we could see a full head of hair, it was weird.
Some good news, the sickness is reducing to the point of vomit free days. I'm managing to have a little bit of veg and mostly keeping it down. So remember it can get better.
Saw the consultant who offered me early induction due to spd. I'm going to try a sweep first but if it works, baby could be here in 2.5 weeks. Also the scan showed the baby is growing very well. So a diet of mostly Co Co pops and crisps can still grow a baby, who knew.

LucindaE · 13/04/2016 11:57

Reebok You poor thing! That must have shocked the nursery staff. It surely cannot be too far off. It's bad you couldn't get an emergency appointment. With this awful list of symptoms, the last thing you need is to be kept awake. Thank you for your praise of the mantra 'This Too Must Pass'. I borrowed it from the wise man in the eastern legend. It seems, a monarch asked a wise man for a saying that would give both humility in the best of times, and strength in the worst, and this is what he came back with; or so I've heard. Must have been a lot wiser than any men I've known - extremely snide of me, that!
squeezed Congratulations on baby's hairdo! I had to laugh at the 'sticking bottom out' bit.
Freshbread Potatoes, ah, an invaluable bland food. Unhealthily, often, as chips and crisps; sometimes healthily, as bad or boiled.
I hope everyone is coping today.

OP posts:
mrsmonkey14 · 13/04/2016 14:23

Hang in there reebok and spandau, the finishing line is in sight! You're being very brave.
fresh - potatoes are on my good list! In fact I even manage my own homemade leek and potato soup (I can't do soup normally as too much liquid, but this is thick and I don't blend it. Alas I can only have it when I can gather the energy to make it). Baked potato with cheese is ok for me, as are potato cakes.
twinkle how are you feeling today? I've always thought that paracetamol was fine in pregnancy.
ickle great news about the scan. Hope you're feeling a bit better today.
sleepy don't overdo it at work. Pleased to hear you have family helping.
squeezed good news about vomit free days and possible induction. I too have a bigger baby (although I'm expecting her to slow down in the next few weeks like her sister did, I'm very small but grow tall babies (DH genes!) but there's not a lot of room in my torso!

I feel enormous now, sure I wasn't this big at this stage last time. Exhausted as DH away, but at least DD is at childminder. I've managed to eat a choc ice! Today is a good day...
Waves to mother hen and everyone else X

Twinklelittlestar1 · 13/04/2016 15:19

Hi all,

Today has been a really bad day. Kept nothing down all day despite the new medication. Pss told me to go back to the doctor but unfortunately they're shut this afternoon so I'm at the walk in clinic with a two hour wait and no idea whether the doctor I see will have enough knowledge to help me Sad

SleepymrsE · 13/04/2016 15:30

twinkle poor you. The walk in doctor should be able to prescribe meds. There are several that can be prescribed so don't fear just yet. I tried all of them before finding a combination that worked. Use the link lucinda posted at the beginning of this thread if you need the names of all the other medications. You might want to ask for a sick bowl if you're in for a long wait.

reebok you are doing so well, my thoughts are with you while you are battling on.

squeezed good news re early induction - can't wait to hear news of the arrival of your little one!

mrsmonkey well done on the choc ice! I can just about manage vanilla ice cream but chocolate is definitely off the menu still.

ickle hope you're doing ok - you've been a bit quiet the last couple of days.

I'm feeling a bit better today, had a good nights sleep and took all my tablets yesterday/today which I think helped. Just managed a small jacket spud & cheese.

LucindaE · 13/04/2016 16:42

Twinkle Much sympathy from me too, and I can't improve on SleepymrsE's advice. Were your ketones horribly high?
SleepymrsE That was meant to be 'baked potatoes' I wrote, not 'bad potatoes'
Grin - that sums up a rdiiculous picture - and congratulations to you on a baked potato and cheese, and for
mrsmonkey on a choc ice.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 13/04/2016 17:51

Thanks for the advice sleepy and Lucinda. Just back from the walk in centre and they have prescribed Phenergan to take alongside the cyclizine. (Wow, I'm going to have a chemists degree by the end of all this!) I felt so terrible this morning and I hate the lack of control I have over the symptoms. I'm really working my way though all these meds! I'm just spurred on by advice on here and the Pss helpline that there will be something that can help. It's just so debilitating. Maybe this combination will help, here's hoping!

Squeezed what a trooper you are, you are almost at the finish line!

Mrsmonkey good news on the choc ice. I used to have a chocolate addiction before all this but haven't touched a piece in ages. I have a huge bar I bought some weeks ago that's been sitting by my bed. Think it will get donated to my dp eventually (along with the three Easter eggs I gave up willingly last week)

Sleepy glad you are having a good day. Jacket potatoes are one of my go to foods now although I used to love them before too.

squeezed · 13/04/2016 18:09

Hello Fresh man came to my door to try and sell me easy to prepare healthy food. I laughed in his face and he didn't know how to respond to my description of 8 months of vomiting and not being able to stand up to cook. Poor man, I've got cabin fever and will talk to anyone unlucky enough to come to my door.

Threw up twice. I'm not impressed! Might be karma for freaking out the Hello Fresh man.

MotherofPearl · 13/04/2016 18:40

Hello all. Twinkle, hope the new meds combo works for you. It takes a lot of perseverance to get the right treatment, because when you're so debilitated by sickness endless battles to get doctor's appointments etc are the last thing you feel like.
Sleepy, glad to hear you're back on a more even keel.
MrsMonkey, I also feel enormous this time. In spite of HG my bump is gigantic. Someone told me that I look 'majestic' the other day, which made me visualise a ship! Blush
Ickle, lovely scan photo from Monday.
Reebok, sorry to hear that the agony continues. Does paracetamol help with the pain at all?
Fresh, how was your day today?
Squeezed, we're going to be in a race to the finish, along with Icant, Spandau and Reebok! Although my EDD is 7 May, my induction has now been booked for 4 May, which is exactly 3 weeks from today! Unless baby decides to make an early appearance, I guess. Your story about the Hello Fresh man made me smile - little does he know that we all live mainly on potatoes!
I wonder how Special is getting on. And also how Icant fared getting her care plan drawn up?
Big waves to Lucinda. Smile

mrsmonkey14 · 13/04/2016 19:30

twinkle I'm sorry it's been such a rotten day, but pleased to hear they gave you new meds to try at the walk in, good that they listened to you, hopefully now you will avoid being admitted. Ondansetron works for quite a few of us if you have no joy with this one. Look after yourself, this is the worst bit you're going through.
squeezed are you my neighbour?! Hello fresh man rang my doorbell just now as I was putting DD down (DH still away), I opened nursery window to shout down to see who it was and gave him loud ironic laughter before I managed a 'no thank you' in response to his sales pitch. (Read my no cold callers sign or at least don't ring the doorbell at toddler bedtime, grrrr!) managed to convince DD to go to bed and she has agreed on condition she could take her bouncy ball with her... I didn't even manage to bath her tonight :-(
Sorry to hear about the vomiting though. I can just imagine the hello fresh man's face when you told him all that!

The choc ice stayed down but was, on reflection, unwise! Feel like I've had a good few days though, so better than normal. Working tomorrow so will see if that sets me back again.
MOP I'm sure you do look majestic!! (Visions of you floating around in a kaftan?!) race to the finish (pink castle) indeed - fingers crossed you, squeezed, icant, reebok and spandau have beautiful little babies to snuggle very soon. X

Rocket82 · 13/04/2016 19:30

Hello! Exciting to hear that some people are nearing the finish line! Good luck squeezed, icant, spandau, reebok and pearl!

Doing a bit better here. I had high hopes for metrochlopromide but it turned out to be a disaster and made the vomiting so much worse. Last week I went to see a GP who had been through HG herself, twice, and she gave me a prescription for omeprazole, which she said was the only thing that helped her. I've been on it 4 days (with cyclazine) and so far things have improved quite a bit. Now some days I am not vomiting at all until it starts to wear off in the evening (then puking at intervals through the night, but at least not having to try to keep stuff down then) It's not an anti-emetic but a stomach acid inhibitor - the GP said that in some cases excess stomach acid can cause nausea. Went to work today and it went ok. I've also been spitting the nauseating excess saliva or continuously sucking mints, both of which seem to help with the nausea. Worried about the effect on my teeth, but better than vomiting perhaps?

The hospital doctors prescribed and want me to take 3 thiamine pills a day, but I'm only managing 0-1. They smell disgusting and make me feel so sick. Is anyone else having to take these and do you know how important they are?

icklekid · 13/04/2016 19:45

Hi all so sorry been awol and not really able to do personal messages again. Having ds all this week is absolutely exhausting, got Dr appointment tomorrow to talk about next week at work. I'm half wondering about just doing 1 or 2 days next week then 2-3 the next because I need to recover from having ds this last fortnight. However I'm aware it's not works fault I'm exhausted after the holiday. Anyway mil coming to have ds tomorrow so much needed break will ensue! Choc ice sounds amazing but also heart burn inducing. Got a dentist appointment on Friday really hope they are sympathetic and my teeth aren't ruined from all the sickness!

All those racing to the finish line I'm rooting for you (from bed!) And can't wait to hear baby news.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 13/04/2016 20:03

Caught up on last couple pages so sorry if I've missed anyone.
madrigal sorry to hear its back, I find it worse last tri? How are you doing?
special congrats on the scan! Have you thought anymore about welsh names? I remember you had a thread on it a while ago. How's the MIL situation?
mop glad the wedding went well, sounds a good conversation with your consultant friend and its reasurring to hear what they said about ondansatron. On mat leave yet?
sleepy how's your Ds? Sounds traumatic :( stress really doesn't help hg either?!
fresh thank you for the kind words, welcome back, we just missed each other when I joined the thread but I remember reading your posts.
monkey how's things? Here's hoping you have more good days.
Reebok the end is near who'd have though it?! How's the pain and itching? Hope you've had or get an appt.
ickle lush scan, hope ds was up a more sensible time today! Mine is an early riser too!
Lucinda how's your mum doing? You should be doing this as a paid Job your so good at supporting us all!
Amy's I take ranitidine and omperazole for reflux etc and find evening with milk helps as that's when its worse. How are things with dh now?
twinkle paracetamol is safe in preg and codine is too. Hope the new meds work but if not go back!
Spandau how you holding up? Good luck for appt Monday.
squeezed good news that induction is an option :)
rocket I'm on thiamine etc and found it was making my nausea and sickness worse with the smell, there's an infusion called pabrinex that you have so that's worth an ask! Has folic acid and other things in.

Hope I've not missed anyone but apologies if I have!
Seen my consultant again she rang to come up and was excellent, arranged me to have b12 jabs again as I'm low, having an iron infusion as v anaemic, and is doing a sweep every other day from next weds (37 weeks) and induction booked for 38. She's even arranged for her shift to be at the hospital so she's over seeing my induction (the trust is over 3 counties, im delivering in another county where there's a consultant ward). I cried with relief, the diabetic team arranged induction for 39 weeks but she said that's too late.
