Molar pregnancy

Hello,

Thought I would start a new thread on molar pregnancy, as having recently found out that I've had a complete molar pregnancy I am keen to speak to others going through the same thing, or those what have been through it in the past. I had a D&C 7 weeks ago following what I thought was a 'normal' miscarriage. The sonographer picked it up on my scan when I was about 10 weeks pregnant (I got an early scan as I'd had quite a bit of bleeding). I then had it confirmed about 5 weeks after my D&C and had my first blood/urine tests done last week - initial results are hcg at 1,835 - which still seems pretty high...Getting tested again next Monday so guess I'll know more once I have those results back.

Anyway, it would be great to hear from others in the molar pregnancy camp!

I haven't had this but a very close friends wife had this about 4 years ago. Hers was picked up due to bleeding the day before her 12 scan.
I think she ended up being really poorly with it and had to go through a lot of tests.
Happy to say she now has a very cheeky 1 year old.

So sorry to hear you've been through this. I had a partial molar pregnancy in 2008, which was discovered at the 12 week scan. We had a heartbeat at the seven week scan, but it was slow, but then stopped just before 12 weeks. It was a huge shock.
We were told to wait six months before ttc again, but if I remember correctly I think the advice was to wait a year after a full molar. Have your doctors said anything about this?

Chintaria that must have been awful to know there had been a heartbeat but it then stopped. I think partial molar pregnancies are worse in that respect, at least with a complete you know it never even got to that stage.

Yeah, advice on ttc has changed recently, it's now 6 months from your readings going to normal for a complete only 2 months from normal for a partial. How did you find the follow up process?

I thought the advice might have changed by now! I'm in Belgium, and my gynae at the time was useless, so I didn't really have a follow up process. I had a bit of advice from my GP, but found out more through my own research as I'd never heard of molar pregnancies before. We did go on to have a gorgeous dd in 2014, but had lots of problems with pregnancies (nothing to do with having had a partial molar). I was the one who had to remind the doctors/midwives that a blood test was needed 6 weeks after the end of each pregnancy to make sure hCG levels were back down to normal.

How are you feeling emotionally? I did really struggle with it, but it was my second miscarriage of that year so it was a pretty horrendous time! No matter what the reason, any pregnancy not working out is heartbreaking. I really hope you're doing okay.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I had a complete molar pregnancy, discovered after ERPC for what appeared to be an early miscarriage. I had had early scans which showed no heartbeat, but wasn't sure of my dates so went back a couple of times over the following fortnight. I felt progressively sicker and more faint over that time which made sense later on once I knew about the molar pg.

I was very upset at the time, and for a while afterwards - it was my first pregnancy and everyone I knew was having healthy babies. I went on to have 2 more miscarriages (unconnected) before my first son arrived in 2010, and had my 3Rd child a month ago! This thread has reminded me to send a sample off in a couple of weeks. That's as much of an impact as it has these days.

I hope things progress in a straightforward way for you. It's a shitty thing to happen but it's now like a distant bad dream to me. I hope the same will be true for you in time.

Chintaria - congrats on your DD! It's crazy how different follow up is depending on where you live. I'm registered at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee which is the Scottish centre for molar pregnancies. They've been great so far.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. It must have been really hard to deal with that and then a molar pregnancy within the same year.

I feel okay at the moment. Just stressing about how quickly/if my hcg levels will drop. It will be good once I have my next set of results back and I can see if they've dropped and by how much - need to wait another week for that though.

Hi suzy I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have had three miscarriages myself but they were not molar so I don't have any practical advice.

I know there is a support thread for molar and partial molar pregnancies on the miscarriage board so it might be worth having a quick look there, everyone is very supportive on that board.

Hello, so sorry to hear you are going through this.

I had a molar pregnancy in 2003, mine was complicated and persistent and so I am on lifetime follow up. I did however go on to have 3 amazing children.

There is an ongoing support thread on the mc boards, which has a lot of people 's stories.

Fingers crossed your levels come down quickly.
