I KNOW the baby will come when it's ready, but I'm feeling seriously fat, uncomfortable, selfish and miserable. I'm 36+5 weeks. When can I start doing the pineapple/cumin tea etc thing? At least I'd feel a bit more pro active.
Oh, and happy new year.

I was told to start taking evening primrose oil (to soften the cervix) at 37 weeks, and start doing perineal massage around the same time.

If anything it will keep you a little busy and prep your body for labor.

I know how you feel and in 16 weeks I'll be in your shoes.

You're almost there, just hold on.

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 00:24

So I can't start eating shed loads of crannberries and drinking cuury type tea?

OP posts:
itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 00:25

oops, curry.

MKG · 01/01/2007 00:40

I've never heard of cranberry bringing on labor.

Don't do anything to bring on labor for at least another week. The baby will come when it's ready anyway. So just think about doing things to get you ready for labor. If you start eating loads of curry and raspberry leaf tea now and it doesn't work, you'll just get more frustrated.

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 00:48

Bum. I did know that would be the answer, but I'm just so fed up. Really, I should have more patience. Maybe tommorrow will be a better day. Thanks for the advice, will start massaging bits.

Today's not been a better day! So when can I start trying things to get labour kick started??

Itsazoo, how you feeling? I'm 39 weeks on thursday due 11 Jan (on due Jan thread) and am seriously fed up. I can hardly walk as bubs head is engaged and I can't put any weight on my right leg as its agony. I wobble everywhere and I'm like a swollen pork sausage, bathing is a nightmare as I get stuck, sitting down feels fab but family keep telling me to walk about and let gravity help I would but walking effin hurts! I'm considering raspeberry leaf tea now but last week when I went for my 38 week check up the midwife said have a vindaloo, pineapple and some sex. I can't face any of it! I think if you could hang on a bit longer it would be better for your bub.

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 22:07

Feeling pretty much like you! Just want to get it out and start living again. Does that sound incredibly melodramatic and selfish? Really don't want to endanger baby, but surely as am 37 wks tommorrow...and midwife said thats not considered prem anymore I can start trying things? Know they probably won't work, but at least I'd be DOING something!

My doctor said anything after 37 weeks should be fine.

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 22:29

Really Paula?! I'm almost crying with relief! (Whilst twiddling nipples, searching for cumin and trying to persuade dp to have an early night).

Daisypops · 01/01/2007 22:33

Good luck itsazoo, let me know if any of it works!

paulaplumpbottom · 01/01/2007 22:35

That was 3 years ago but thats what he said. He wanted to induce me at 39 ( something about a holiday if you can believe the cheek)

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 22:49

What a w**r. But what good advice he obviously gives (think would adore anyone who said I could go for it). Tea is foul!

Get tweaking those nipples - my MW swears by it and I have started it!!!!! Lay in bath with some candles burning and massage your nip and areola for about 5 minutes each side.l It releases Oxytocin, which is what gets things started. Worth a try????

lulumama · 01/01/2007 22:53

natural induction tips on this website

be warned...until baby is ready to be born...he is not being born! all these things will genlty encourage the cervix to ripen and might encourage contractions which will help also....but labour starts when it starts..

but i am a big believer in positive thinking and positive actions and all these tricks will help you feel like you are doing soemthing, which improves your state of mind,..

also , nipple stim and sex definitely help to ripen the cervix...!

sit on a gym ball lots, and also do some visualisations of the birth...positive ones!

make time to relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax..!

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 22:54

How far gone are you Wilkie? Am trying! Assuming that it's just the action that counts-and not that you have to be enjoying it?

OP posts:
lulumama · 01/01/2007 22:54

orgasm can also help ,itzazoohere...to encourage contractions.

itsazoohere · 01/01/2007 23:08

Have just made dp read that lulumama! Just feel so much brighter already, knowing I'm being pro-active. Can you tell I'm not very patient? Also worried because have had 2 growth scans (midwives worried about small baby) that showed good sized baby and that I don't have much room in there. Plus the pre-eclampsia that nearly killed me with dd1 at 38 wks, it all makes me think it's just more sensible to get it out!

Since when does cumin induce labor? God I eat a load of it everyday.

If it does induce labor put it on eggs. It is so yummy. It might sound gross, but it's good.

itsazoohere · 02/01/2007 00:06

Hadn't heard of cumin helping until recently either, but willing to try anything. hoping the fact that it's best before 2004 won't matter!

OP posts:
lulumama · 02/01/2007 08:06

cumin rings a bell , but possibly for helping breast feeeding!

wilkie50 · 02/01/2007 09:09

Hi Itsazoo, I'm usually on January 07 thread - I am 37+2. Had loads of contractions in middle of night on Sat after nipple stimulation before bed, nookie (poor DH - must have been like mounting a beached whale) and orgasm . God I am so glad this site is anonymous. (Always a good tip - remember that DH doesn't have to be present for orgasm purposes IYKWIM and it DEFINATELY stimulates contractions but ony for a short while.

itsazoohere · 02/01/2007 10:17

No contractions for me! Felt seriously sick last night, but unsurprising as tried the brown sugar thing, cumin and cinnamon tea. Was planning for sex, but lost dedication as soon as head hit pillow. Was looking at some american sites and aparantly there's a reflexology spot on your ankle that might help?
Can't find it though. Can't actually reach my ankles, which doesn't help.
