I am 26 weeks into my 5th pg and baby is breech.
Midwife didn't say but read it in my notes.
All other babies were head down from as soon as they can tell, so don't know much about this, but am hoping that the little bugger will turn by itself!
Please all you lovely mumsnetters come and say " yep mine turned round!"

I don't think it matters til 32-35 weeks
I'm 29 weeks and the position is changing all the time here

paulaplumpbottom · 31/12/2006 19:29

Babies at that age are turning all the time aren't they?

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 31/12/2006 19:31

Oh good heavens yes they turn! Especially after the first, when you've got lots of room and they can dance about for all 40ws!

lulumama · 31/12/2006 19:38

bags of time!! will post some links tomorrow about turnoing a breech baby....off out now ! happy new year!

Miaou · 31/12/2006 19:41

I was admitted for a section for dd1 who was breech, having been scanned the previous day to check she was still breech - I asked them to just do a quick scan again just to doublecheck before I went into theatre - and she had turned during the night! No-one could believe I hadn't felt it happen! I can't remember how many weeks I was at that point but I think I was 38+ weeks

cadeauxbury · 31/12/2006 19:58

I think you've got loads of time for it to turn. I am nearly 35 weeks and my lump is breech - doing some serious praying here.

Miaou - that's encouraging. I'm not all that hopeful as I have notoriously stubborn children.

get yourself to an acupuncturist or ask if any of the midwives in your area are trained in moxabustion. It has insanely high success rates at turning breach babies. (involves burning a non toxic herb called moxa over acupuncture points associated with the womb)

divastrop · 31/12/2006 20:37

my first 4 were all head down from as soon as they could feel the baby as well,im 29+ weeks with no.5 now and the baby was lying transverse when i had a scan at 28 weeks, then yesterday i was being kicked in the bladder, but today im being kicked in the ribs!i was abit worried after the scan but i think they dont worry till after week 34.
i was in hospital with my bp the other night and a lady in there was due 1st jan,and her baby had turned transverse after being head down from 30 weeks.they were going to give her a section but the baby turned back again in the night.

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 31/12/2006 22:32

My last baby was heads down til 34 weeks and then one night did a full turn to breech, I was as sick as a pig all night as was like having a washing machine on full cycle going round and around.

She did turn again at 36 weeks and I never noticed

lulumama · 01/01/2007 11:01

turning a breech baby!

and moxibustion, as has already been mentioned, is excellent for turning a breech ....believe pulsatilla is also effective ...homeopathic remedy i think..

also, if baby does not turn, it is possible to birth a breech baby vaginally......

cadeauxbury · 01/01/2007 11:25

vaginally !!!! ouch!!!

lulumama · 01/01/2007 12:33

it is entirely possible.......however, fewer midwives are confident about breech babies being born vaginally as many are born by c.section now.....

why any more ouch than head first ?

QuootiepieTheHogmanayAss · 01/01/2007 12:37

Hiya, not read the whole thread, but DS was breech until 37/38 weeks. He just...turned. I think they would have tried to turn him at 39 weeks or maybe 38 if he didnt turn.

Kristingle · 01/01/2007 12:42

yes lots of time to turn. MW wouldnt have said coz its not big deal i suspect

even if it doesnt turn on its own you can ask if they will turn it for you at about 37???/ ish weeks. good chance it will work with a 5th baby

guess you dont want a CS with four other LOs????

cazboldy · 01/01/2007 16:51

No definitely do NOT want c section unless it would put me/baby at risk. If it didn't turn would definitely ask them to let me try and have it naturally.
So far have had 4 very easy and quick births, all at home except the first.
Thanks for all the positive replies, will just keep my fingers crossed and not worry too much about it (yet!)
