Pregnant & on cerazette, PCOS & underactive thyroid

Well the title says it all.
Found out today that I am pregnant after not feeling right for weeks. Been back & forward to docs & then BAM BFP today!
I honestly didn't think I could have any more DC with being diagnosed with PCOS after have my DS.
My latest TSH results were raised to 5.8 last month so I have increased my dose to 175mcg.
I am happy/shocked & scared all at the same time. I feel I'm in a dream & about yo waken up.
Told my DH he isn't thrilled but says well it has happend & we will be ok. He wasn't too keen on having anymore DC because of money troubles etc. He has a DS from a previous relationship & then we have a DS together age 6.
Anyone else fallen pregnant on Cerazette & anyone else had raised TSH levels but had a healthy pregnancy?

My thyroid is underactive and I've had no problems - 33 weeks now. I had a blood test early on to check my levels and they needed to up my dose but no problems! I've been told to return back to my previous level the day I give birth though. Will probably just mean a few extra blood tests for you but a little extra monitoring is a good thing IMO.

My TSH was really high for the first few months of my pregnancy (didn't think I could get pregnant so didn't find out I was until quite late!) - lots of extra blood tests & dosage changes throughout (100mcg to 175mcg) and with absolutely no adverse effect on baby. He was born perfectly healthy last month. I was under consultant care because of it but all that really meant was increased monitoring, which helped put my mind at rest throughout.

I still can't quite believe it. I am a little scared but arnt we all from the day we test positive!
I'm worried now that pcos can cause ovarian cysts and if you have a cyst that can give a positive pregnancy result. My mind is in overdrive!!

Hi all, I have autoimmune thyroid disease but my levels have been just OK to date to avoid meds. I've just had my TSH level come back as elevated and GP wants to re-test in 4weeks before putting me on meds, I'm in the first trimester of pregnancy and just wondered if this was other people's experience or whether they were put on meds straight away?

Hi Boomies, how elevated is your TSH? If it's only a little then I can understand your GP waiting as over medication in early pregnancy is marginally worse than under medication (so I'm told). Leaving it 4 weeks will paint a more accurate picture so your medication, if you need it, will be at the right level. As I said in an earlier post, slight under medication in my early pregnancy was absolutely fine so don't worry too much between now & your re-test!

HEllon boomies Congratulations. It's good that they are going to retest in 4 weeks.
How high was your TSH? Mine was 5.8 last month but doc did say with me being pregnant that's why it could have shot up.

Hi both yes it was only a little elevated, just over 5, so thank you for the reassurance!

I only found out yesterday that om pregnant & a little worried as my last result was 5.8. Xx

1moretime mine was over 7 when I first found out I was pregnant. Not saying be complacent but definitely don't worry too much. Just keep on top of your levels & your meds and you'll be fine

There are clear guidelines for managing thyroid conditions in pregnancy. My consultant increased my meds immediately by 25mcg ( I happened to see the endo the same week I found out I was pregnant). He has been monitoring my bloods that have been drawn by the midwife.

The baby has no thyroid until the second trimester so draws on the mother's thyroxine. I think the guideline for pregnancy is a tsh of 1 (or perhaps 2 I can't remember) and mine is always less than 0.5 but I still had an increase in medication.

I would make an appointment with your GP to be referred to endo and to discuss medication.

I was at the Doctors on Monday, this is when I found out ...I have been back and forward since Dec, being sick, cramp's, bloated & just not feeling myself. Doctor put in a urgent referral to consultant regarding my thyroid, so should hear soon. I did increase my dose 2 weeks ago anyhow as my tsh was raised last month so at least I have increased recently.
