Cyclogest - constipation!

I just found out Im pregnant after ICSI treatment. I have been taking Cycologest progesterone pessaries (3 x 400mg daily) for a couple of weeks and must continue until I'm 12 weeks pregnant. It has however given me very bad constipation. I have tried eating fibre rich food and using syrup of figs but its not working. Has anyone else had this with Cyclogest? Do I need to go to the Dr? I want to try and sort this naturally if at all possible! Sorry for the T.M.I!

Yes. It should settle down though. But early on it was awful and no matter how much fruit, veg and fluids I tried it didn't help. Lactulose or Movicol are both safe to use but you will need to ask for them OTC.

Thanks. I have sent my husband out to get some. I wish it would settle down. I have tried everything food/drink wise.

try back entrance (i know, i know) or prune juice helped me. x

I'm taking them rectally and think that's the problem. I won't do the front as I read a lot of women get thrush. Oh the joys of it all!

I'm also on cyclogest and use them rectally. It has in fact made me regular Blush I start of my day with a high fiber breakfast and have been eating more fruits now than ever. I have heard though that is causes constipation in some.

Really hope you get some relief OP. (Cyclogest can really irritate the cervix if you use them vaginally, I've always used them rectally).

Dixiechick17 · 21/02/2016 17:02

I used cyclogest from 24 weeks to 37 weeks, I was constipated before I started using them, pregnancy just did that to me. I made up prune purees and had a glass before bed every night, really helped keep me fairly regular. Lactulose and stuff like that has never worked for me.

I was on 2x 400mg cyclogest up to 12 weeks and took then rectally too with no constipation tbh I think constipation is a common early pregnancy symptom regardless of if you're on progesterone.

Try to drink more water and fresh fruit juices. You can take also an herbal supplement that is very effective in relieving constipation problem. I have this Digestic by Mimonis which was prescribed to me by my Doctor. I was very impressed with the result showed to me by this supplement. It helps me bring back my normal bowel movement.

Thanks. I'm now wondering if the hormone is giving me this terrible insomnia too.

Insomnia is another very common early pregnancy symptom - probably not related to the progesterone.

mrsmugoo thanks for letting me know! I have been worried about not feeling pregnant, just dealing with these two problems instead. I'm shattered and hope it passes soon.

I had pretty much no symptoms in the first trimester other than a 3 week puke-a-thon weeks 7-10 and tiredness.

In my first pregnancy I was totally unaware of being pregnant until 14 weeks so no symptoms whatsoever!

Good luck and congratulations!
