Hi All Smile I'm going through the shopping list for DC1. Would you recommend getting a video baby monitor rather than just one with sound? I've just been warned off the video one saying you can't stop looking at it . . . . . what do you think?

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the suggestions are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out baby monitors. Read our reviews to see which product was crowned best video baby monitor.

Hope that helps! Flowers

We have the Tomy Video one, [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DW6O1HC/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_SzoYwbGXS3Q54

I can't think of any negatives apart from the monitor itself hasn't got great battery life, about 3 hrs ish. It's got quite good range, I can sit in my garden front or back and it gets good reception.
The camera unit hangs above our DD's cot and there is a nightlight (you can choose how bright) you can control remotely, three songs you can control remotely, the picture quality isn't as good as the box would suggest but is good in daylight and the infrared is fine. You can zoom in and the breathing movement just about shows as movement on the screen so you can see that.
The screen itself turns off after about 10 secs, but flicks on if there is a certain amount of noise. You can change this so it's on all the time but we stopped doing that pretty quickly.

I'm sure all the main brands do all these things but it's not too dear so v affordable.
Congrats!
