Consultant care and csection

Hi, my partner is away training soon until I'm 35 weeks pregnant. I'm under consultant care for high bmi and bad first labour. I'm hoping for a csection and seeing him for the first time next month.

How many appointments did you have after 20 weeks? Do you think they will let me have them after dp gets back? Hospital is 30 miles from home and I don't drive, so no idea how I'm going to get there and back 😪

Hi, I'm consultant led after a Prem birth and pre eclampsia, I'm now 37+5 weeks pregnant with my second. I was seeing my consultant once a month and after 28 weeks was seeing my midwife fortnightly!?

It really depends on your individual circumstances. I am consultant led because I have an existing health condition, which has meant I also now have developed PGP & GD.
I'm 27wks and now see physio every week, consultant apt & scan every 3wks and depending on how controlled the GD is I also have to see the the specialist nurse, on top of that I see the community MW at my GPs at 30wks & 34wks (last saw her at 25wks)
The only way you are going to know is if you ask them, but be aware that circumstances can change so having a back up plan may be wise. (I wasn't expecting to get GD and the additional monitoring that goes with that)

If your 35 weeks this should have been discussed well before now!

I would call your midwife and ask to see the cons earlier

Whatdoi - she isn't 35 weeks. She says her husband is going to be away until she is 35 weeks. So wants to know potentially how many appointments she'll have between 20 and 35 weeks.

OP I'm midwife led mainly but have still had some consultant appointments. Had one after the 20 week scan and have then had growth scan at 28 and 34 weeks with consultant straight after. It all depends on what you need to see the consultant for

Have you had you 20 week appt yet? As they would normally give you an idea for when you need to see them again in that. I'd have thought you had at least one or two appt between 20 and 35 weeks

Ask at your next appointment, both pregnancies I was consultant led but got "downgraded" to midwife led at about 20 weeks. I was a possible candidate for a c-section but at my hospital unless it's a definite, decisions are made regarding c-sections at the 36 week appointment,

I'm seeing the consultant next month at 20 weeks for the first time. I had a repair operation in 2011 and was told I wouldn't be allowed to have a natural birth again.

Plus my bmi is very high and I have big babies. X

I'm consultant led and having monthlycommunity mw appt and monthly hospital consultant appt plus seeing a specialist mw every fortnight. I don't know what your regime will be but mine was written in my notes as a plan at 14 weeks.
Mt hospital has a link service for people to get to who may find other public transport difficult. It's a mini bus that you book. You have to pay but cheaper than a private taxi. it may be worth looking into. I've been to all my scans, mw and consultant appointments by myself as I have no family locally and my husband works.

I'm consultant led but pretty straightforward - ok bmi, no GD or extra meds now, just 38 one previous c section and IVF/ICSI pregnancy. The general plan is for consultant/registrar to see at 20,28,32, and 36 weeks unless any complications happen, in which case the appointments would be more frequent.
