20 week scan. Full bladder?

I can't see anything on my letter that tells me one way or another. Scan is at 3.30 so I guess I'd have to stop peeing very soon! What did everyone else do?

You need to drink about a pint of water an hour for the scan.

What did I do? I drank a lot of water all morning then wet myself 5 mins before my appointment Grin

I didn't need a full bladder for my 20 week scan. I think your uterus is out of your pelvis by that stage so it is easier to see the baby.

my letter told me to have a full bladder and then I got told off for having a full bladder because it pushes the baby further away Grin

I didn't have a full bladder at all went to toilet before I went to hospital and then had a slight drink of juice (only because I was dry) before I went in and u could see everything perfectly x

Ps good luck socktastic

Artioo2 · 11/02/2016 13:44

It would say on the letter if you needed to have a full bladder. I didn't for mine.

socktastic · 11/02/2016 13:49

Thanks folks. I'll go with a wee bit in reserve and if I need to pee I can do it there. x

Drink some water, they will get you too wee if they need to. Doesn't work the other way round.

I didn't know either so went with a full ish bladder. I asked at reception and they said I could go to the loo. I did get told off at my 12 week for having an empty bladder but the letter didn't mention it and there were no signs in the loo!

Sanch1 · 11/02/2016 15:40

I just drank a cup of tea half an hour before, was fine. The full bladder for 12 weeks is because the uterus is still within your pelvis and the bladder pushes it out to see it easier, at 20 weeks your uterus is about up to your belly button so much easier to see.

LouLou030783 · 11/02/2016 16:55

How did scan go? Xx

socktastic · 11/02/2016 17:14

Scan was ace! Went in with some in reserve and they didn't say one way or the other. Anyway we have a very healthy looking little one!

Glad it went well :)

For future reference it depends on the machine whether you need a full bladder. I didn't need one for either 12 w or 20w scans- in fact they sent us to provide a urine sample beforehand so no chance :)/

Those hospitals that do require a full bladder (older machines) will say you do on the letter. If it doesn't say, you don't need one.
